Night fell like ink, pressing heavily down upon the dilapidated small courtyard. Qin Lie reached behind him to shove the door bolt firmly into place, leaning his back against the cold, rough wooden door before he dared to let a sliver of his forced endurance drain away. Fatigue clung to his entire body like a bone-boring parasite, aching down to the marrow of his bones. The pile of newly turned earth in the corner exuded a faint scent mingling blood with corruption, silently recounting the thunderous methods he had just employed. He closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them again, nothing remained save for an ice-frozen calmness.
