Early the next morning, the Five Yue Sword Sects and the high monks of Shaolin arrived at the hillside of Mount Shaoshi.
Among the leaders of the group, Shaolin sent the highly respected Master Xuanci and the formidable Master Fangzheng. The Five Yue Sword Sects were not to be outdone: Huashan Sect leader Yue Buqun and his wife, Ning Zhongze, attended in person; the Hengshan Sect was led by Abbesses Dingxian and Dingyi; the Taishan Sect sent the brothers Yujizi and Yuqingzi; and the Hengshan Sect was led by Master Moda. Curiously, the Songshan Sect, despite being the leader of the Five Yue Sword Sects, sent no one.
The opposing side also boasted a significant force. In the center, surrounded like stars around the moon, stood the young prince of the Jin Kingdom, Wanyan Kang. On one side were Ren Woxing and Xiang Wentian of the Sun Moon Holy Cult, while the other side was led by Qiu Qianren of the Iron Palm Sect and Duan Zhengchun of the Xingxiu Sect.
