Yet she seemed naturally sensitive to the goodwill or malice of others, usually able to tell at a single glance whether someone liked or despised her. She could sense that there were many guests present, but at least the relatives who proactively came over to greet her harbored no ill intentions; to be precise, curiosity was the dominant emotion.
