It was not until three hours after the Zerg outbreak began that the area around the canal was finally cleared. This was achieved through the relentless carpet-bombing of artillery, the brutal close-quarters combat of the super soldiers, and the cleanup operations conducted by the Mecha Warriors.
For humanity at this stage, however, it had been a harrowing and brutal battle. Of the nearly one hundred super soldiers deployed by helicopter, more than half were dead or wounded. Of the dozens of Mecha Warriors, only about a dozen remained, including Chu Yang and Lin Qingxue, capable of hovering in the air. Even so, the energy reserves within their Nano Mecha were nearly depleted from the state of constant over-operation, and their Nano Longswords were notched and pitted, their blades soaked in blood.
As for the others, the more desperate among them—once they were no longer able to fight—would drag the corpses of two Zerg or charge directly into a swarm, only to trigger the self-destruct system of their Nano Mecha the moment they were swarmed. The immense force of the blast would pulverize them and the surrounding Zerg alike, reducing them to dust. Others, before they could even react, would have their heavily damaged Nano Armor sliced through by the Zerg’s razor-sharp limbs, ending their lives in an instant.
