Chapter 11

Yu Wangyou was horrified by what she had just done; she had never expected her punch to be so powerful.
"What do we do now?"
She was panicking.
At that exact moment, Yu Qianpan’s parents, seeing their son drenched in scalding hot pot broth, lost their composure entirely. Abandoning all pretense of civility, they rushed forward, grabbing Yu Wangyou by the hair and slapping her across the face.
*Slap.*
Before she could defend herself, a red handprint appeared on her cheek.
"Sister-in-law, are you... are you alright?" Gu Xiaowei was terrified, her chopsticks slipping from her fingers.
"I'm fine." It was a lie.
She rubbed her stinging cheek and looked at the frenzied couple.
Yu Qianpan’s parents helped their son to his feet, glaring at the women with venomous eyes. "If anything happens to my son, I will make you pay with your lives!"
As the couple hurried off with their son in an ambulance, Yu Wangyou suddenly felt lost, not knowing where to look.
"Did I... did I start a disaster?"
She had never cared about such things before, but now, a strange, creeping panic took hold of her.
"I think he deserved it. Don't be afraid, Xiaoyou. You are a daughter-in-law of the Gu Family; let's see who dares to touch the Gu Family."
Su Ruowan radiated the commanding authority of the mistress of the Gu Family.
"Thank you... Mom." A faint flush stained Yu Wangyou’s cheeks. Ever since she had been lost as a child, those two words—Mom and Dad—had felt incredibly foreign to her. Even saying them felt like a monumental effort.
Su Ruowan immediately softened, her expression turning tender as she pulled the "frightened" Yu Wangyou into her arms.
Yu Wangyou looked listless, causing Gu Wangci to knit his brows.
"Who called the police?"
Two officers walked into the hot pot restaurant. As their gazes swept across the room, many patrons looked away, their heads hanging in guilty silence.
"Who is Gu Xiaowei? We received a report that a Gu Xiaowei was inciting a public disturbance..."
Hearing her name, Gu Xiaowei instinctively stood up. Just as she was about to speak, Yu Wangyou pressed her back down.
"I was the one who hit him. It has nothing to do with her." She shielded Gu Xiaowei behind her, blocking the officers' probing gazes.
Hearing this, the police grew stern. "Very well, come with us."
Yu Wangyou’s eyes dimmed. She looked back at Gu Wangci, who stood tall and composed. At that moment... she suddenly felt an intense urge to kiss him.
She stared at him, motionless. The two officers, assuming she was simply reluctant to leave her family, did not rush her.
Yu Wangyou didn't consider herself a coward, but right now... her hands were twisting her hem, leaving wrinkles on a previously smooth garment.
"Gu Wangci."
Gu Wangci, who had been frowning, instinctively grunted in response. It wasn't that he lacked a way to resolve this; he actually wanted to use this opportunity to temper her fiery temperament. After all, he still remembered her landing two punches on him.
"Gu Wangci, wait for me to come back." After half a minute of hesitation, Yu Wangyou finally mustered her courage. She grabbed his tie and pulled him downward, pressing her soft, red lips against his. A fleeting, gentle touch.
Gu Wangci stood frozen, stunned. Then, he reached up to touch his lips, a faint smile dawning on his face.
*Hehe, she kissed me!*
Seeing her eldest son wearing such a bashful, blushing expression, Su Ruowan retorted, "Look at you. You’re the CEO of the Gu Group—can’t you show a little restraint?"
Hearing his mother’s teasing, Gu Wangci regained his composure, straightened his tie, and walked out.
Gu Xiaowei, having finally finished her meal, tugged on her mother’s sleeve and whispered, "Should we go to the police station to check on Sister-in-law?"
After all, her sister-in-law had only acted because of her; it was only right that she check on her.
After being taken away, Yu Wangyou remained completely dejected. The officer in the passenger seat, seeing her mournful expression, softened his tone. "Was that your boyfriend back there?"
"No, that's my husband." Yu Wangyou started to raise her hand to show off her 24-karat pure gold ring, only to realize... she didn't actually have a ring.
She felt even more discouraged.
"But that’s the Gu Family. How did you manage to get involved with them?"
"Can you police officers stop being so gossipy? You’re just rubbing salt in my wounds." Yu Wangyou glared at them.
The two officers wisely fell silent. The car drove smoothly along the road and soon arrived at the police station. Chief Hao had not yet finished his shift and was currently sitting upright in his office, sipping tea that his daughter had bought to please him.
Upon arrival, the two police officers shook the sleeping Yu Wangyou awake and, while she was still groggy, brought her into the chief's office.
The moment the chief caught sight of her, the tea he had just swallowed got stuck in his throat—he could neither swallow it nor spit it out. He figured this little ancestor must have beaten someone up again, or she wouldn't have been dragged here.
"Uncle Hao, I've come to turn myself in." Yu Wangyou's mood was very low. Hao Zhenguo glanced at her; based on past experience, she was either acting or well on her way to acting. He decided to wait a bit longer for her "magic cloak" to make an appearance.
Yet who would have guessed that after waiting a long time, he still didn't hear another peep from her.
He coughed twice in surprise, his expression one of utter shock!
"Oh my, you're actually serious this time?"
"Yes, Uncle Hao, you have to help me. That family is so powerful, and they even threatened to take my life. I was scared, so I came to turn myself in."
Yu Wangyou's gaze was extraordinarily sincere—so sincere that Hao Zhenguo almost believed it.
"Fine, so she's acting after all."
And here he thought this girl was turning over a new leaf and starting fresh. Turns out she was just hiding from her enemies.
"With someone as formidable as you, is there really anyone you're afraid of?"
"Uncle Hao, if someone like Aunt Zheng could repeatedly compromise for your sake, why can't I do the same?"
Seeing her mention his wife, Hao Zhenguo proudly lifted his chin.
"Huh? And so?"
"And so, Uncle Hao, please have mercy and let me out early. I don't want to die young before I've even lived, sigh~"
Hao Zhenguo: "..."
He really shouldn't have had any expectations for her.
Though he scoffed at her clumsy acting, what she said made sense.
"Since you claim you came to turn yourself in today, you're going to stay right here and reflect on your actions."
With that, he took another sip of his tea. Good tea shouldn't go to waste.
Realizing there was no hope of getting out tonight, Yu Wangyou stopped insisting and instead began discussing tea leaves with him, even managing to cadge a cup of tea to drink without leaving a trace.
"By the way, where is your daughter?"
"She said she went out to meet a friend. Why? Looking for her?"
Yu Wangyou wanted to say she indeed had business with her, but on second thought, if he found out that the daughter's friend was actually her, and that she had stood her up... well, she would probably end up staying here until she died of old age.
A flash of guilt crossed the depths of Yu Wangyou's eyes.
While she was sipping tea leisurely here, over there, the cold, merciless rain was beating wildly against a face...
"Ah! Yu Wangyou, you stood me up again!Hao Jia Joy was furious.
They had agreed to go out together to ruthlessly beat up a scumbag, and yet again, she was the only one who showed up. It was the same last time—everything was settled, and then she suddenly backed out.
She sniffed, deciding that the moment she got back, she would break off all ties with that person surnamed Yu for a whole night.
By this time, it was nearly ten o'clock. Hao Jiale had stood in the cold wind for a full half-hour, and once she was certain Yu Wangyou wasn't going to show up for the appointment, she stamped her foot and left.
"If I ever play with Yu Wangyou again, I'm a dog!" she left behind a declaration of her feelings, which was scattered into the horizon by the cold wind.
Meanwhile, back at the police station, Yu Wangyou sneezed loudly.
She rubbed her nose and muttered, "Who's missing me?"
After finishing the last bite of instant noodles, Yu Wangyou finally patted her stomach with satisfaction and sat down to the side.
Chief Hao bent forward slightly, looked at the remaining instant noodles, and then glanced at the stack of empty noodle bowls in front of Yu Wangyou. His mouth twitched involuntarily.
"How many days have you gone without eating? Starved to the point of looking like this?"
"Not even a few days, I was just craving this flavor." She even swallowed a mouthful of saliva as she spoke.
"It looks like you're having quite a comfortable time here." A man's lazy and sexy voice sounded as he strode across the threshold of the police station.
The moment Chief Hao saw him, he immediately stood up, then glanced at the slovenly Yu Wangyou beside him, signaling her to look presentable.
Yet who would have expected her to utter something astonishing!
