Because her hand was aching, Yu Wangyou decided not to bicker with him, closed her eyes, and drifted back to sleep.
Seeing her hand wrapped up like a rice dumpling, Gu Wangci felt a pang of guilt. Deciding not to disturb her any longer, he tiptoed out of the room.
Back in his own room, he made a phone call to his assistant, his face icy.
"Hello? President, is something the matter so late?"
Since Assistant Zhao hadn't told Gu Wangci that he had called his parents, younger brother, and younger sister, a wave of panic had been washing over him. It felt like a storm was brewing.
He hadn't expected it to arrive quite so fast.
"Zhao Kai, you've grown quite bold, haven't you? How dare you act without consulting me first?"
Zhao Kai, the assistant, broke out in a cold sweat, his heart trembling uncontrollably.
"President, I..."
Assistant Zhao was suffering inside, but he didn't dare voice his grievances.
Gu Wangci had already hung up, wondering whether he should send Zhao Kai to Africa to raise elephants. But on second thought, he only had this one assistant; if he shipped him off, he'd be stuck running everything himself without a break.
With a sigh, he dropped the idea. However, he resolved that the first thing he would do upon arriving at the office tomorrow was make this audacious Zhao Kai delete all contact information for his parents and siblings. That way, if anyone ever told him a secret, he wouldn't blab it to others the next day.
With these thoughts in mind, he reviewed some documents on his computer for a while, then took a shower and went to bed.
Early the next morning, Yu Wangyou woke up, staring blankly at the ceiling for a brief moment.
"Sister-in-law, are you awake?"
Gu Xiaowei knocked on the door, her voice still hoarse with sleep.
"Huh? I'm up." With a swift carp-like leap, Yu Wangyou sat up in bed, slipped into her slippers, and opened the door.
Standing right there were Gu Xiaowei and that stinky man behind her.
The mere sight of him made her blood boil—her hand was still hurting.
"Sister-in-law, it's like this. My oldest brother said... he said..." Gu Xiaowei found it difficult to put into words. Because of what happened last night, her eldest brother was worried about her going to school alone, so he wanted her sister-in-law to accompany her. But she felt too embarrassed to say it out loud.
"What did your oldest brother say?"
"My oldest brother said... said you should be my personal bodyguard and go to school with me." By the time she finished, Gu Xiaowei's face was completely red.
Yu Wangyou raised an eyebrow at the man standing behind her, asking silently: *Is this true?*
Gu Wangci nodded.
His sister's safety needed to be guaranteed. Although Gu Jiangyu was around, that guy was as useful as a blunt hammer—he didn't even have half of Yu Wangyou's combat prowess.
Yu Wangyou turned back to the conflicted-looking younger sister, smiled slightly, and said, "Alright. Even though I'm twenty-one, I've never been to school since I was little, so today I'll go experience what it's like."
Hearing this, Gu Xiaowei snapped her head up and accidentally bumped into Yu Wangyou's chin.
A sharp pain shot through Yu Wangyou's chin, but even amidst the ache, she couldn't resist joking, "Good thing it's real, or I'd have lost my looks."
Gu Xiaowei rubbed her own head and let out a couple of sheepish chuckles.
After making arrangements for his sister, Gu Wangci headed off to the company.
Yu Wangyou borrowed a set of clothes from the bodyguards at the old residence, and wearing them, she actually looked the part.
"Look, aren't I drop-dead gorgeous?" Yu Wangyou asked, feeling quite pleased with herself.
"Mhm, super cool!"
"Then let's go! If that jerk gives you any trouble again today, just use that bomb I gave you to scare the daylights out of him."
The mere thought of that bomb terrified Gu Xiaowei; she had no desire to be labeled a terrorist.
The two of them got into a car and headed toward the school together. Yu Wangyou kept her face as rigid as any professional bodyguard, leaving not even Gu Xiaowei with any flaws to pick at.
"Drop-dead gorgeous!"
After a thirty-minute drive, the two finally arrived at Shengying Academy, only to find Yu Qianpan and his parents waiting for them outside the main gate bright and early. Judging by their appearance, they had been standing there for quite some time.
Yu Wangyou pulled out a hyper-realistic silicone mask and handed it to Gu Xiaowei. When Gu Xiaowei took it and looked, she was so startled she almost threw it away.
"Put this on. You can take it off once we get inside. I can't beat him up these past couple of days." Yu Wangyou waved her injured hand. If it weren't for her injury, she would have beaten him until his own mother wouldn't recognize his teeth scattered across the floor.
"Okay... okay..."
Gu Xiaowei put the mask on her face, and within moments, she looked like an entirely different person.
The two of them walked past the wheelchair-bound Yu Qianpan in utter silence, and Yu Qianpan didn't notice a thing, still craning his neck in eager anticipation.
"Hah! What a big fool." Yu Wangyou turned back, spat on the ground, and muttered an insult.
They successfully made it into the school, only to be blocked right at the classroom door.
"Who are you?"
Zhang Lü, the class disciplinary committee member, stared at Gu Xiaowei and the woman in black behind her.
Gu Xiaowei didn't know what to say, so she reached up and peeled off the silicone mask. The moment she pulled it off, the disciplinary committee member was so terrified that he fell flat on his rear end.
"A-A ghost!" the disciplinary committee member shrieked at the top of his lungs.
"A ghost your head! No wonder you couldn't even become class monitor." Exasperated by his incompetence, Yu Wangyou delivered a swift chop to the bridge of his nose, leaving the committee member completely dazed.
"You—you actually dare hit me?!" The disciplinary committee member was both shocked and furious. He was shocked that she dared to strike him, and furious because he suspected he couldn't beat her.
"Calm down, Sister-in-law." Breaking out in a cold sweat, Gu Xiaowei grabbed her and hurried into the classroom.
Unconvinced and feeling unsatisfied, Yu Wangyou even turned back to flip Zhang Lü off.
Trembling with rage from head to toe, Zhang Lü scrambled up from the floor and ran straight to the dean's office to fetch the homeroom teacher.
The homeroom teacher heard about the incident and immediately marched toward the classroom with a face full of suppressed anger. After all, that disciplinary committee member was her prized pupil; she couldn't just let him get bullied by outsiders.
With the homeroom teacher walking in front of him, the disciplinary committee member practically had his nose turned up to the sky.
"Just who threw the punch earlier? Step forward." The homeroom teacher's face was dark as lead as her gaze swept across everyone in the classroom. Seeing no one step forward, she turned her sights onto the disciplinary committee member.
Looking deeply aggrieved, the committee member pointed a trembling finger at the female student sitting in the very last row by the window.
The homeroom teacher narrowed her eyes. Her body reacted faster than her brain, and she strode directly toward the girl.
However, the girl stood up, offered her a bitter smile, and then stepped right up onto the windowsill. "Don't come any closer," she shouted, "or I'll jump!"
Sitting right in front of her, Gu Xiaowei was terrified out of her wits! This woman could launch into an impromptu drama anywhere at any time—she was going to give her a heart attack!
The homeroom teacher froze instantly, finally realizing where her bad premonition had come from.
"Student, calm down. The teacher isn't going to punish you."
"Then why are you walking over? Don't think I don't know about you and the disciplinary committee member."
The homeroom teacher's heart clenched. While urging the girl to put her foot down, she began backing away. Swallowing hard, she pulled the guilty-looking disciplinary committee member standing beside her closer.
"The disciplinary committee member will take charge of the class for now; I still have lesson plans to write." Guilt-ridden, the homeroom teacher didn't dare pursue the matter any further, terrified that the girl might actually jump out of the window if provoked.
As soon as the homeroom teacher left, a cheer erupted in the classroom.
"Finally, someone put that old witch in her place. That really let out some steam!"
The classmates all looked toward the girl who had just threatened to jump out the window, only to see her calmly pulling her leg back down as if nothing had happened.
"How on earth can she do something so completely upside-down and outrageous while keeping such a straight face?"
The classmates were baffled, and Gu Xiaowei was even more so.
Back in her office, the homeroom teacher felt completely out of her depth regarding the situation. With no other choice, she picked up her phone and called Gu Xiaowei's eldest brother.
That girl was sitting right behind Gu Xiaowei; she refused to believe the two of them weren't connected.
Gu Wangci was right in the middle of a meeting when his phone rang.
Seeing the icy expression on the president's face, the assembled shareholders all gasped inwardly. Who on earth had such terrible timing? Didn't they know the president was in a meeting?
President Gu waved a hand at the shareholders and answered the call. The moment the line connected, a voice full of complaints came through:
"President Gu, you really need to keep your sister in line. She just incited a student to jump out a building, and I can't even manage her anymore."
Hearing this, Gu Wangci subconsciously hardened his expression, giving the shareholders another heart attack.
Who on earth was it?!
"Alright, I'll be at the school in ten minutes."
After hanging up, Gu Wangci tapped his fingers lightly against the tabletop, each tap falling heavily upon the shareholders' hearts.
"If President Gu has an emergency, please go ahead and handle it first."
That was the exact cue Gu Wangci was waiting for. He stood up immediately, grabbed his suit jacket, and strode out.
On his drive to the school, he dialed Gu Jiangyu's number.
