Jian An'an suddenly realized the truth.
Su Zixuan hadn't broken any bones at all. Everything that happened on set was just an act!
Furious, she glared at the smug Su Zixuan standing before her and spat out two words through gritted teeth: "Despicable!"
"I am despicable, so what are you going to do about it?" Su Zixuan stood right in front of Jian An'an and reached out to pat her face. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. You look so haggard, even your own mother wouldn't recognize you, would she? But it doesn't matter anyway; your mother has been dead for a long time."
"You!!!" Jian An'an was choked with rage. She struggled to avoid Su Zixuan’s hand, her eyes bloodshot with fury. "Su Zixuan, don’t you fear retribution for all the evil things you've done?"
Su Zixuan put on a show of mock terror, patting her chest. "Oh, you’re scaring me." Her tone then shifted, and she looked at Jian An'an with amusement. "As if! Hahaha..."
She leaned closer to Jian An'an and lowered her voice. "Your mother died so miserably, yet five years later, my mother and I are still living perfectly well. In fact, things are only getting better for us. So, I don't believe in any of that nonsense about retribution."
Jian An'an gritted her teeth as she stared at this despicable, shameless murderer. She gave a violent tug, but she remained trapped; her wrists were raw and bleeding from the handcuffs. Yet, as if she could no longer feel the pain, she only wanted to strangle Su Zixuan with her bare hands. "Su Zixuan, I will have my revenge."
"Revenge? You're not worthy." Su Zixuan grabbed Jian An'an by the hair with a beaming smile, forcing her to look up. "Instead of worrying about whether I'll face retribution, you should be thinking about tomorrow's trial. In a city as big as Yuncheng, there isn't a single lawyer willing to defend you."
Jian An'an was seething with rage.
Su Zixuan smiled even more brilliantly. "You didn't know, did you? Lu Hanyang and I are getting married in three months. I will spend the rest of my life happily with him, and you will die here."
Jian An'an froze, her heart still aching involuntarily.
She looked up at Su Zixuan, clenched her fists, and said word by word, "I didn't do it, and no one can frame me. The innocent will always be cleared."
Hearing this, Su Zixuan laughed until tears came to her eyes. "Look at what time it is, and you’re still this naive! All the evidence and witnesses are in my favor, and the only camera that could prove your innocence has been destroyed by me. Besides, as long as I keep playing the cripple, you will never have a chance to turn things around!"
Despair crept into Jian An'an's heart. She had no other options, so she could only stubbornly repeat, "You won't get your way."
Seeing that she still wouldn't give up despite being in such a weak state, Su Zixuan took out a phone and threw it in front of her.
Jian An'an was stunned. It was the phone that had been confiscated when she was sent to prison. What was Su Zixuan planning? Meeting her suspicious gaze, Su Zixuan spoke with mock pity. "Didn't you say the innocent will be cleared? I’m actually a very kind person. For the sake of our past relationship, I’ll give you a chance. You can make a call now, find someone who can prove your innocence, and I will allow them to testify in court. How about that?"
Jian An'an stared blankly at Su Zixuan, not knowing what kind of trick she was pulling now.
Su Zixuan watched her with a smirk. "Why aren't you making the call?"
Jian An'an eyed her warily. "What exactly are you trying to do?"
Su Zixuan laughed triumphantly. "I just want you to clearly understand the gap in our power. In this situation, absolutely no one is coming to save you. Just thinking about how you have nowhere to go and no one to turn to makes me wake up smiling from my dreams!"
Su Zixuan certainly had no intention of giving Jian An'an a real chance; she simply wanted to torment her.
Going from hope to despair is far more devastating than never having seen hope at all, isn't it?
Jian An'an bit her lip, knowing that Su Zixuan was just finding new ways to humiliate her.
She knew no one would testify for her, but... was she really going to be wrongly imprisoned just like this?
As these chaotic thoughts swirled through her mind and she neared a breakdown, a figure suddenly entered her thoughts.
It was Li Shaoting!
Among the people she knew, he was the only one capable of suppressing Su Zixuan. Throughout all of Yuncheng, Li Shaoting’s word was absolute! But...
Would he help her? She really wasn't sure.
At that moment, Su Zixuan urged, "Jian An'an, are you going to make this call or not? Or can you not even find a single person willing to testify for you?"
"I'll call! Of course I'll call!"
Jian An'an grabbed the phone and turned away, unwilling to give up even a 0.1 percent chance. With complex emotions, she dialed Li Shaoting's number.
Li Shaoting...
He really was her last hope.
The call went through the moment she dialed, so quickly that it caught Jian An'an off guard.
A low, familiar voice came from the other end: "Hello..."
Jian An'an felt a tremor in her ears; the image of Li Shaoting’s broad, tall back immediately appeared in her mind.
She didn't know how it happened, but all the grievances she had suffered over the past few days came flooding up. Her eyes turned red, and her voice choked with sobs. "Mr. Li... I..."
Li Shaoting paused when he heard Jian An'an’s voice.
He had not expected Jian An'an, who had hung up on him and had been avoiding him lately, refusing to pick up his calls, to take the initiative to call him now. He was still hungry; in this world, Jian An'an was the only person who dared to play games with him, Li Shaoting.
A wave of inexplicable anger rose in his chest. His expression turned cold, radiating an icy chill. Without waiting for her to continue, he tapped his finger and hung up the phone.
"Beep—beep—beep..."
The sound of the disconnected line left Jian An'an frozen in place.
The call had been cut off! She still had tears in her eyes and a belly full of pleas for help, yet... she hadn't expected him to hang up before she could even finish.
Was he... still angry?
When the call went through and she heard his voice, she had truly believed she could be saved.
But now...
Jian An'an let out a self-deprecating laugh.
Yes, of course.
Who did she think she was? Why on earth did she think that just because she asked, Li Shaoting would save her?
Perhaps in his eyes, she was nothing more than an incompetent cook. How could she possibly be worth him using his influence to rescue her? It was she who had been too ignorant of her own standing.
Su Zixuan stood to the side with great interest, watching Jian An'an’s expression shift from hope to defeat.
It seemed the "savior" she had summoned refused to help.
Giving her hope and then shattering it—Su Zixuan felt she could watch this process countless times and never get bored.
Given Jian An'an’s status and her social circle, how could she possibly find a useful ally? Anyone foolish enough to cross her, Su Zixuan, would be made to wish they were dead.
"Since no one is helping you, don't blame me for not giving you a chance."
