The middle-aged man lowered his voice, but the impatience in his tone was impossible to mask. His fingers tapped against the tabletop, creating a dull, rhythmic thud. "That's right, we're doing this for your own good. You're a girl; no matter how much you study, you'll end up married and tending to a household anyway. It's better to marry now—at least it’ll save the family some money." The middle-aged woman chimed in, her voice sharp and thin. There was no concern in her eyes, only reproach.
