Central Street in Jiangcheng City is very old. Its pavement is made entirely of nearly a century-old bluestone slabs, and many houses along the street retain their appearance from decades ago.
In the 1930s and 1940s, this area was occupied by a group of foreign invaders, and some of the buildings here were constructed by them.
With the passage of time, reform, development, and economic takeoff, single-story houses, old buildings, new buildings, and high-rises have been torn down and rebuilt over and over. Yet the structures built by those invaders still stand firmly here, bearing witness to a time when some people once lorded over this place in arrogance.
