"I'm happy, super happy. How could I not be? I just need some time to get used to it. It feels so unreal," Jiang Xia said excitedly as she nuzzled the cat.
How could anyone not be happy when something this amazing dropped right into their lap? Jiang Xia poured all her excitement into petting the cat.
Jiang Xia had always wanted to keep a cat, but never had the time to take care of one, so she gave up on the idea. Now that one had delivered itself right to her doorstep—and such an adorable one at that—how could she possibly resist?
"No more anger, no more anger," coaxed Jiang Xia, petting the cat.
"I'm not mad anymore. Let go of me. Meow~"
"Sit properly. Meow~"
"Let's get down to business. Meow~"
Jiang Xia did as she was told, and the cat and human sat facing each other on the bed.
"Let me introduce myself. I am the God-level Sign-in System, and you are the chosen Host, Jiang Xia. Meow~" The God-level Sign-in System introduced itself with the utmost solemnity.
"Okay," Jiang Xia nodded.
"Starting today, you must sign in every day until I upgrade. Meow~" Having finished its self-introduction, the system did not forget its mission.
"Okay," Jiang Xia nodded.
"The rewards from signing in will exceed your wildest imagination. I will remind you promptly every day. Meow~"
"Okay," Jiang Xia nodded.
"We're going out for a stroll today. Meow~" The system stated its goal; it wanted to go out and take a look around.
"Okay," Jiang Xia nodded.
"Don't you have anything else to say? Meow~" What was going on? Her Host had turned into a broken record.
"Nope," Jiang Xia shook her head. Whatever the system said went.
"Hurry up and get ready. I want to go out. Meow~"
"You got it. I'll drop by the supermarket to pick up some stuff, too; we're completely out of supplies at home." Jiang Xia went to get ready, having not been out in a long time herself.
Just as she was about to get off the bed to change clothes, a thought struck her. She turned her head to look at the kitten: "Oh right, aren't we going to sign in?"
"We'll sign in when we get back. Meow~"
Fine, how casual~~~
"Oh right, do you prefer signing in in the morning or at noon? Whichever we pick today will be the time every day until the next upgrade. Meow~"
"Let's do noon. I can never get up in the morning," Jiang Xia said without a second thought. She certainly didn't have the habit of waking up early.
"Alright, system settings complete. From now on, sign-in is at 12:00 PM every day. Meow~"
Jiang Xia would definitely be awake by 12:00 PM. Not having to wake up early was simply fantastic; as a lazybones, she rarely managed to get up early.
Overjoyed, Jiang Xia scooped up the system kitten, planted a kiss on it, and beamed, "Aww, System Kitten, you're the best."
Jiang Xia was going on a massive shopping spree at the supermarket.
On the way there, Jiang Xia realized that since the system was currently in the form of a kitten, she would definitely need a name for it when calling it out in public. She asked, "System Kitten, do you have a name? Since you're a cat right now, calling you 'System' feels a bit awkward."
"You can call me Xingxing. I came up with it myself. How is it? Sounds nice, right? Meow~"
"It sounds lovely, absolutely lovely. Hello there, Xingxing," Jiang Xia formally greeted Xingxing.
"Hello, Host! Meow~"
This trip to the supermarket was no different from Jiang Xia's usual runs, except she bought way, way more than usual.
She had thought about buying cat food, but Xingxing told her it didn't eat cat food—it would eat whatever Jiang Xia ate. While browsing data earlier, it had developed a strong yearning for the local cuisine.
Jiang Xia thought about it and realized that made sense; this wasn't an ordinary cat, after all, but a system.
So Jiang Xia turned around and headed straight for the food section, sweeping through the aisles and filling her shopping cart to the brim.
That left Xingxing, perched upon her shoulder, with stars in its eyes.
Back home, Jiang Xia placed all the food she had bought in the designated snack storage area.
Once she finished tidying up, Jiang Xia went to write her novel. Her novel was nearing its conclusion, and so many readers were waiting for the grand finale. She had to give her story a perfect ending.
Right at 12:00 PM, the system prompted a sign-in.
"Sign in," Jiang Xia said.
"Beep—Host's first sign-in successful! Special rewards: one Immortals' Valley, one Marrow Cleansing Pill, one bottle of spirit liquid, one Ten-thousand-year Ginseng, one ten-thousand-year purple glossy ganoderma, one unknown egg, and one God-level Cultivation Method. Meow~"
"Immortals' Valley: Located deep in the mountains of Q Province, it is an extremely beautiful valley. A delivery will arrive in three days containing the deed to Immortals' Valley.
Marrow Cleansing Pill: Cleanses the marrow and thoroughly purifies bodily impurities. The process is extremely painful; taking it is not recommended.
Spirit liquid: Spirit water from an advanced spirit spring. Drinking it expels bodily impurities with a gentle, painless effect. Spirit spring water has five grades: beginner, intermediate, advanced, celestial, and divine.
Ten-thousand-year Ginseng: Ginseng that has grown for ten thousand years.
Ten-thousand-year purple glossy ganoderma: Purple glossy ganoderma that has grown for ten thousand years.
Unknown egg: Unknown.
God-level Cultivation Method: The God-level Cultivation Method, Huntian Formula.
Meow~"
As the system finished describing each item, it materialized in front of Jiang Xia, lined up one by one and floating in mid-air—all except for Immortals' Valley, of course.
"Aww, Host, you've got some pretty good luck. To think you'd get so many good things! Looks like you're destined to be a Cultivator. Meow~"
Xingxing was envious. In all its years dealing with various hosts, this was the first time it had ever encountered one this lucky—a God-level Cultivation Method like the Huntian Formula!
That was something countless Cultivators dreamed of, yet not just anyone could practice it.
"Cultivating immortality? Really? I can cultivate immortality? I can fly? Hahahahaha!" Jiang Xia was stunned. Cultivating immortality? Novels turning into reality right before her eyes!
This was truly a massive golden finger.
She thought back to all the immortal-cultivation TV shows she used to watch, where protagonists flew around freely and gracefully here and there. She hadn't lacked imagination back then, but those had all been mere fantasies. Now, she could actually do it herself!
"Of course. Meow~"
"Wait, what is that unknown egg about? The description says 'unknown'? Huh?" She could understand everything else, but what on earth was this egg? There was no description for it!
"Sorry, Host, the system doesn't know either. But now it's yours—time for you to uncover its secrets! Meow~" The system sounded somewhat through gritted teeth as it spoke.
At the mention of that unknown egg, the system kitten grew furious.
To think it was a dignified God-level Sign-in System! Originally, this mission was supposed to be its very last assignment. Once completed, it could retire with full honors and directly cultivate a human form.
And the result?
Because of this damn egg!
This damn egg.
Damn egg.
It had caused the system to get struck in a spatial rift, its energy sucked away, leaving it completely out of control. Could there possibly be a more down-on-its-luck system in existence?
As a frequent traveler of spatial rifts, where was it supposed to put its face?
Sigh, this trip of its was simply too tragic. If the juniors found out, wouldn't the system lose all its face?
Originally, it had wanted to head to an immortal-cultivation world to find a host. Who could have guessed it would be dragged straight to Jiang Xia by this egg, and then find itself unable to leave, constantly bound by some strange force keeping it trapped here with Jiang Xia?
It was a system on the verge of retirement and possessed system privileges, meaning hosts could normally be chosen freely. But now, thinking about it was useless; it was stuck with Jiang Xia and couldn't leave.
The system was suffering inside, but it couldn't voice its woes. Right now, its only hope lay with this Host.
Yet it couldn't even bind properly; when it first arrived, it had been completely drained of energy. Fortunately, it could still use the Host's computer to learn about this world. Otherwise, its fate as a God-level Sign-in System would be too pathetic, unable to do a single thing.
