Chapter 9

Oh right, there was also a Bofors-Hazenmeyr twin 40mm triple-stabilized radar anti-aircraft gun.
And a Bazooka M1A1. Not to mention the PIAT, if that thing even counted as a heavy weapon...
The barren state of the armory brought Zhurong a deep sense of crisis.
He always felt that the firepower was severely lacking and desperately needed an upgrade.
At the very least, they should have light tanks, medium tanks, heavy tanks, and a land cruiser wouldn't hurt either.
The air force should at least cover all the mainstream types: reconnaissance planes, transport planes, fighters, interceptors, attack aircraft, dive bombers, level bombers, reconnaissance helicopters, transport helicopters, and attack helicopters.
The artillery couldn't be left out either: cannons, howitzers, gun-howitzers, self-propelled artillery, anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank missiles, anti-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, short-range rocket artillery, long-range rocket artillery, short-range ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles, and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
As for the navy, they needed to go all out. A full range of maritime forces—transport ships, supply ships, hospital ships, torpedo boats, frigates, destroyers, light and heavy cruisers, battleships, aircraft carriers, missile boats, missile destroyers, and missile cruisers—had to be arranged.
(Finally finished listing the menu.)
To obtain the aforementioned equipment, the most reliable method currently was to go to the battlefield and scavenge ready-made gear.
What? You say get weapons directly from the Southern United Front?
Stop joking around. These scum haven't even managed to develop tanks and high-speed piston fighters.
Right now, there are only two paths to choose from: either go to the Soviet to get weapons, or go to Germania to get them.
To acquire weaponry from the Soviet, one must first consider the issue of nationality, and secondly figure out how to gain access to their top-tier equipment.
However, if one were to exchange views with Germania on the battlefield...
Various weapons and equipment could be taken straight from enemy positions without any worry of being discovered.
Furthermore, by accumulating merits in operations against Germania, one could apply as a war hero for a transfer to the junction where the Soviet and United Front defense lines met—an area where the fighting was fierce.
A large volume of cutting-edge equipment was rushed to that intersection at the very first moment, whether from the Soviet or Germania.
There was always a way to fish out some good stuff.
As for naval vessels... Zhurong had three backup plans.
Plan one: Raid a Germania naval port alongside Soviet forces and pack up all the needed ship classes to take them away.
Plan two: Somehow salvage a Soviet battleship and then pull out a new one, using this clumsy method to unlock it in the store, and then just go to the battlefield to sell scrap metal for points.
Plan three: Put Violet in a safe place and have Zhurong's spirit go alone to the interior of Germania to collect them.
Among these, plans one and two both required finding a way to gain a certain level of renown in this world. Plan three, while simple and crude, posed a rather significant problem regarding Violet's security.
Once someone set their sights on Violet, things would inevitably snowball.
After all, she was still a child who had only learned to speak half a year ago, and she didn't understand much about the ways of the world.
Once things blew up, Violet's background would quickly be uncovered.
Imagine this: a young girl possessing formidable physical strength, alongside unprecedentedly powerful magical talent, yet with almost no concept of the deceit and machinations between people. What would happen then?
She'd probably be treated as a tool to be used at will, and happily so.
Solving everything with brute force was also unfeasible.
Even though she could tear apart a tank bare-handed on her own, she could not rival the military might of an entire nation.
Weighing all of the above, Zhurong ultimately decided to try his luck directly on the battlefield.
The original plan was to head straight to the front lines, find an opportunity to enlist right on the battlefield, accumulate military achievements relying on Violet's absurd intuition and reflexes, and take it slow.
Now that they had stumbled upon a count by a stroke of luck, they could just make use of him and skip some of the steps in between.
"Miss Richthofen, we've arrived."
Violet withdrew her gaze from outside the window and nodded toward the officer sitting opposite her.
On the platform, embarking and disembarking passengers bustled about, a good portion of them officers and soldiers.
In the distance, across several other platforms, an armored train sat parked alongside a few trains bearing the military emblem of the United Front.
"Recently, we've discovered that Germania has pulled a portion of its main forces from the Western Front to the Southern Front, and their second-line units are also assembling on a massive scale.
Intelligence suspects that Germania is planning to launch an all-out offensive against us. The command has decided to hold the railway line to the death while simultaneously requesting reinforcements from the Soviet.
Whether the Soviet reinforcements will come or not, I don't know, but right now all reserve units are converging here.
A fierce battle is about to begin..."
The casual officer said this while pulling out a somewhat battered cigarette case, extracting a single cigarette as if to light it.
Violet simply looked at him.
"Oh, sorry. A bit nervous."
The officer smiled helplessly and put the cigarette back away.
"The contact mentioned earlier that the K Unit commander would come to greet us, but I wonder where they are in the station."
Just as the officer mentioned the K Unit, amid the crowd in the railway station, a pistol was pointed straight at Violet.
Seeing that Violet had murderous intent, Zhurong hurriedly warned her.
"That guy's gun is loaded with non-lethal rubber bullets; he's probably just testing your abilities, so don't hit too hard."
Before Zhurong's voice had even faded, Violet spun around swiftly while throwing a knife.
"Whoosh!"
"Clap! Ah!"
The man's pistol was knocked flying by the small dagger.
The young master, this chapter still has more, please click the next page to continue reading, the next part is even more exciting!
After throwing the knife, Violet instantly accelerated and rushed in front of the man.
With a single kick, she sent him crashing into a pillar.
With a backhand motion, she drew another knife, ready to hurl it.
"Cough, cough! Wait!"
"Hold your fire!"
Two voices rang out simultaneously.
The knife had already been thrown.
"Clang!"
The blade embedded itself fully half a centimeter deep into the steel pillar.
The spot where it embedded was a mere 10 centimeters away from the man's forehead.
"Do you have an explanation for this?"
Violet gently brushed back her slightly disheveled long golden hair and stared at the man who had just shouted to hold her hand.
"Hello, Miss Richthofen. That was just a capability test we had planned. The gun was only loaded with non-lethal rubber bullets.
The missions executed by K Unit are extremely hazardous; I must ensure that squad members possess reliable combat capability to prevent any potential problems down the road.
That being said, I must still apologize to you—such a method was indeed rather discourteous."
Violet simply stared quietly at the man.
"Please allow me to introduce myself. Albert Schneider, rank lieutenant colonel, currently serving as the commander of K Unit."
The man saluted with a Southern United Front military salute.
Violet immediately stood at attention and returned the salute.
"Violet von Richthofen, rank major. Reporting for duty, sir!"
(The Southern United Front's military salute is similar to the common eyebrow-level salute of today, but their hand is placed at the forehead position. It looks somewhat like the Young Pioneer salute, but with the hand lowered down to the forehead.)
"This isn't a suitable place to talk business. Please step over to our stronghold."
Lieutenant Colonel Schneider made a polite gesture, signaling Violet to leave the station.
"Very good, she's getting into the soldier persona pretty quickly."
Zhurong complained mentally inside Violet's head.
"Huh? I feel like it's totally normal..."
Violet's somewhat puzzled voice echoed in the minds of both human and ghost.
Zhurong covered his face; it seemed integrating Violet into society still had a long, long way to go.
Earlier on the train, Zhurong hadn't been idle either. He had slipped ahead to "scout" the K Unit stronghold and roughly figured out their personnel composition.
The unit's organization was mainly divided into two parts: part of it was the combat force, and the other part consisted of intelligence and logistical support units.
The entire establishment of K Unit was a reinforced company with a full strength of 180 personnel. Among them, 120 belonged to the intelligence and logistics groups, each occupying a platoon's establishment.
The combat group was also structured as a platoon numbering 60 personnel, divided into five squads. Each squad was a combat team with its own unique style and fixed mission type.
Their roles were respectively: the assault team, reconnaissance team, firepower team, support team, and special team.
The assault team lived up to its name—breakthroughs, storming fortifications, and charging. Any frontal combat saw them serving as the main force, making them the squad with the highest casualty rate.
The reconnaissance team's missions included scouting, infiltration, assassination, and staying as far away from the enemy as possible.
The firepower team consisted mostly of sharpshooters handling sniping, suppressing fire, and even laying down mortar barrages with portable mortars.
The support team's primary duty was carrying supplies such as ammunition, food, and medical provisions, while its members also held the responsibility of serving as temporary replacements for other squads.
The special team was the core strength of K Unit.
It was a squad entirely composed of individuals with all sorts of bizarre abilities.
Among them were espers possessing psychokinesis or superhuman senses. There were also some mages, mostly intermediate mages, with only a single senior mage—don't even think about archmages, as those creatures were rare specimens across the entire known world.
(Mage ranks: Magic Apprentice, Junior Mage, Intermediate Mage, Senior Mage, Archmage. Higher tiers are Divine Envoy, False God, Demigod, True God.
Violet sits somewhere between a False God and a Demigod, though her potential has yet to be fully unleashed.
Besides, True Gods aren't all that strong either; according to the comparisons in many xianxia novels, they're basically at the level of Foundation Establishment Peak and Golden Core Bottom-tier. They'd still bite the dust if swept by a barrage of heavy machine guns.
Anyway, the original work didn't explain what on earth a god is or what their combat power is. But based on side representations, I'd guess it's questionable whether so-called "gods" could take a 250-kg aerial bomb head-on.)
The initiation ceremony was very dull—they simply gathered all the combat personnel, said a few words, arranged the dormitories and combat groupings, and then everyone applauded. And that was that.
Yes, in K Unit, even the commander had to be assigned to combat or logistics teams depending on their actual abilities.
Currently, Captain Schneider served as the overall commander while simultaneously acting as a sniper within the firepower team.
And Violet was, unsurprisingly, assigned to the special team.
As for the position of deputy commander... to put it bluntly, it was a sinecure, or rather a commander-in-waiting, since K Unit had gotten along just fine without a deputy commander in the first place.
"That mock battle earlier—wasn't I a bit too heavy-handed?"
Dressed in a blue-gray officer's dress uniform, Violet strolled expressionlessly down the corridor.
"I already held back as much as I could... but they're really just so weak..."
Violet felt wronged; she had assumed the special team would be strong, but who could have guessed they couldn't even withstand three tenths of her strength?
"Who would've thought—ten people pinned to the ground and brutally beaten by you alone, completely routed in both magic and close-quarters combat..."
Zhurong was equally helpless. He genuinely hadn't realized his child was this formidable; she'd only been in the unit for two weeks and had already become the universally acknowledged ceiling of combat power.
A few days prior, the firepower team had wanted to teach Violet how to shoot, only to end up utterly shown up by her instead.
The firepower team's strongest sniper could only manage a score of 3 hits out of 5 rounds at 600 meters with the aid of an optical sight.
Violet used iron sights (mechanical sights) and hit a superhuman score of 2 out of 5 rounds on an 800-meter target. It was completely absurd!
Was this a sniper? This was a humanoid ballistic computer!
Zhurong: Of course I taught her! You don't let a brain as powerful as Violet's go to waste!
These various inhuman achievements quickly earned Violet a nickname:
"The Golden Violet."
This moniker was also tied to her stubborn refusal to cut her long golden hair. Even though those locks grew almost past her waist, she insisted on keeping them.
As a result, every time Violet engaged in close combat, her hair would flutter wildly in all directions, making her look like a golden shadow fighting from afar.
Coupled with the fact that Violet's name meant violet in English, the nickname "The Golden Violet" naturally spread far and wide.
