"A Demon Lord!!??"
Everyone’s complexion shifted violently; their eyes were filled with terror.
The strongest person in Yangcheng was Chen Baishun, the director of the Special Affairs Bureau—a Mid Stage Grandmaster. If he had been present, capturing this Demon Lord might not have been a tall order. But Director Chen had gone to Zhenjiang for a meeting.
The current strongest person in Yangcheng was the deputy director standing before them, Huang Zongxiang, a Tier 6 Late Stage martial artist. If they were to encounter a Demon, they would surely die.
"Deputy Director Huang, contact the director immediately and report this to Zhenjiang!"
"Something major is bound to happen in Yangcheng; we don't have the manpower to deal with this!"
"Exactly, Director Huang! It’s been many years since a Demon of this magnitude appeared in Yangcheng. Our city has scarce resources and thin spiritual energy. If nothing were amiss, these Demon Lords wouldn't just show up here! Something must be going on in Yangcheng! If Zhenjiang doesn't take this seriously, the consequences will be unimaginable."
"Director Huang, for the sake of Yangcheng's citizens, please report it immediately!"
Everyone spoke up in succession.
"Hmm?" Huang Zongxiang’s expression suddenly turned strange.
Everyone looked at him, puzzled.
"Dead?"
Huang Zongxiang led everyone to the entrance of the residential complex. He flicked his hands rapidly, manifesting a yellow-skinned gourd. A faint trace of blood energy converged, eventually forming a hideous shape at the mouth of the gourd. If Li Zhen had been there, he would have recognized it as the Demon Lord he had killed.
"It really is a Demon Lord!!"
"Thank goodness it's already dead!"
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Huang Zongxiang’s expression, however, remained grave. The Demon Lord was dead, but who had killed it? If it had been a reclusive human expert, that would be fine, but what if it were another, more powerful Demon? It was not uncommon for Demons to devour one another for evolution. Huang Zongxiang dared not gamble. He immediately reported the incident to the Zhenjiang Special Affairs Bureau.
The Zhenjiang bureau treated the matter with great importance and stated they would send people immediately. Huang Zongxiang felt a sense of relief, yet his expression remained somber as he cautiously extended his divine sense. Unfortunately, his cultivation was too low, and he discovered nothing.
"Let’s go check other areas!"
Huang Zongxiang led his team away.
...
In a manor somewhere in Kyoto, a beautiful woman gazed at the letter in her hand. Her brows gradually knitted together, and jealous fire flickered in her eyes, her killing intent uncontrollable.
"So, that wretch escaped to Zhenjiang!"
As she spoke, her face grew colder and she let out a chilling laugh: "What belongs to me, you will never escape. The bloodline of the Tang Family is not something a low-born girl raised in an orphanage can possess!"
"Miss, our retainers Cheng Qian and Lin Lun are currently at the Demon Hunting Plain. Would you like to..." a person beside her whispered.
The woman cast an approving look at the man and nodded. The person immediately pulled out a phone and stepped outside.
...
Huang Xing and Li Zhen returned to the police station after a day of patrolling. Huang Xing kept glancing at Li Zhen with a cryptic smile. Li Zhen’s face darkened. Was it really that funny? Tang Yun was his wife—was it truly so amusing? This guy had been grinning all day.
Then, Li Zhen noticed that everyone at the station was looking at him with strange expressions.
"Kid, you..."
Huang Xing felt no shame; he waved his phone and laughed slyly: "Something this fun, how could I keep it to myself?"
"Brother Zhen, congratulations!"
"Brother Zhen, I heard from Xingzi that you're married?"
"Brother Zhen, when are you going to bring the beautiful Tang Yun out to treat us?"
Several close buddies crowded around, laughing and teasing Li Zhen. Sister Huang, standing nearby, couldn't help but chuckle: "Alright, alright, stop teasing Li Zhen. Let's clock out!"
Just as they stepped out of the station, Huang Xing’s phone rang. Seeing his girlfriend’s name on the caller ID, Li Zhen tactfully walked a distance away. A while later, Li Zhen saw Huang Xing looking absolutely dejected.
"Yating is threatening to break up with me again, saying I lack ambition and haven't become a Martial Artist after all these years!"
"Being a Martial Artist is one in ten thousand—it's not like it's easy to awaken! Is it that I'm not trying hard enough? It's clearly the heavens that are blind for not choosing me!"
"Brother Zhen, come have a drink with me!"
"You're my brother from another mother; don't tell me you're busy!"
Huang Xing was completely despondent, tugging hard at Li Zhen’s arm. As they reached the entrance, they saw a graceful figure standing there. Who else could it be but Tang Yun? Beside her stood several men, each of them fawning over her.
"Brother Zhen, it’s your wife!!" Huang Xing pointed at Tang Yun, teasing.
Seeing Tang Yun, Li Zhen raised his hand, intending to say hello. But a taxi sped up, and Tang Yun rejected the other men’s offers to take her home, getting into the cab and driving away.
"Brother Zhen, isn't Tang Yun your wife? Why did she get into a taxi? Hurry, call her and stop her!" Huang Xing urged, his eyes full of mockery.
Li Zhen felt awkward. He didn't have Tang Yun’s phone number.
"Tang Yun is his wife? Pfft!"
"A mere police officer, how does he have the face to say such disgusting things?"
"Is it Li Zhen? Watch your mouth in the future. This concerns a lady’s reputation. If I hear you spouting filth again, watch out—I'll tear your mouth open!"
The group nearby had clearly overheard Huang Xing and were displeased. In their hearts, Tang Yun was an aloof, high-and-mighty goddess who absolutely could not be sullied by an ordinary person like Li Zhen. What angered them even more was that they wanted to boast like Li Zhen but lacked the courage, feeling that doing so would be an insult to the goddess. Yet, they hadn't expected a nobody like Li Zhen to actually do it. How could they not be furious?
Li Zhen: "..."
Seeing so many people defending his "wife," Li Zhen didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"What are you all doing?"
Seeing Huang Zongxiang appear, the men glared fiercely at Li Zhen and turned away.
"Damn it, those bastards!" Huang Xing gritted his teeth, but since the other men were all Martial Artists, even with his uncle Huang Zongxiang present, he only dared to mutter under his breath.
"See that, Brother Zhen? The influence of the beautiful Tang Yun is just too massive. She’s only been here for two or three days and she’s already gathered so many fans. You’d better stop making that joke, or you’ll be torn to shreds by these animals!" Huang Xing warned.
Li Zhen scoffed. A group of ants daring to provoke a dragon?
Back home, Li Zhen started cooking. Huang Xing sat down like a good boy, waiting.
...
Tang Yun was stopped by the security guard at the gate.
"Hello, miss, who are you looking for?" The guard was a bit reserved when facing Tang Yun.
"I am an owner here, but I’ve forgotten where my home is," Tang Yun said coldly.
If anyone else had said that, the guard would have kicked them out long ago. Forgotten where one lives? Are you crazy? But when it’s a beautiful woman, there are always some privileges.
"My husband’s name is Li Zhen. Could you please contact him for me?"
"Li Zhen? I’ll contact him for you!"
The guard looked up Li Zhen’s number and dialed it immediately, completely forgetting to ask: *If you are Li Zhen’s wife and have forgotten your home address, why don't you even have your husband's phone number?*
At home, Li Zhen’s phone, sitting on the table, rang.
"Brother Zhen, the phone!" Huang Xing reminded him.
"Ask who it is," Li Zhen said while stir-frying.
Huang Xing put it on speaker.
"Hello, is this Mr. Li Zhen?"
"Who is this?" Huang Xing asked, puzzled.
"There is a beautiful lady at the gate claiming to be your wife. She said she’s forgotten where her home is!"
"Pfft!"
Hearing the guard’s words, Huang Xing’s eyes went wide, and the tea he had just taken a sip of sprayed right out.
What? Brother Zhen’s wife?
