After bidding farewell to the remnants of the Nationalist army, Leitao once again embarked on his journey, moving in stealth. He knew full well that his situation was far from optimistic; the injury to his left arm was preventing him from fighting at full capacity. Walking through the dim streets, Leitao’s nerves remained frayed. Every subtle sound made him alert, as if the very air around him were heavy with danger. He moved with extreme caution, taking care not to make a sound, slipping through the peril-filled city like a ghost. Before long, Leitao heard the clamor of approaching footsteps. His heart tightened instantly, and he stopped, hiding in a dark corner. Through a gap in the shadows, he saw a squad of the Japanese Army hurrying toward the church, clearly a unit sent as reinforcements. Leitao held his breath and kept a close watch on the Japanese Army’s movements, silently praying not to be discovered.
