Upon learning that a shipment of vital weapons, equipment, and supplies was arriving, the guerrillas mobilized immediately. They rounded up several single-wheeled barrows and brought along a horse, waiting with eager anticipation to receive these precious "treasures." Leitao set out alone to scout for a suitable storage location. Moving cautiously, he soon discovered a large cave. Inside, the air was damp and dark, permeated with the thick scent of earth. Leitao stepped carefully into the cave and began to arrange the supplies. He methodically stacked the wooden crates, each containing over a dozen Skorpion submachine pistols, a dozen M1911 pistols, ten Thompson submachine guns, and ten Springfield rifles. Next, he placed five large crates containing 300 hand grenades securely to one side. He also carefully organized the crates of ammunition, ensuring they would not tip over or spill.
