In the mural, behind us, nothing could be seen except that pair of eyes. Those blood-red eyes were at roughly the same height as human eyes. But it was impossible to tell whether they belonged to a human, a corpse, or something else entirely. The eyes on the mural were painted with extraordinary vividness. The moment I locked gazes with them, I felt as though my very soul had been seen through, and goosebumps erupted uncontrollably all over my skin. I instinctively glanced behind me, but in reality, that pair of blood-red eyes was nowhere to be seen. Yet the sensation of being watched lingered persistently.
