Chapter 1

The chronicle of Naruto adopted in this book uses October 10th of the 51st Year of Konoha as the birth of Naruto. This has little relation to the main text and may be skipped. The work Naruto itself does not employ a strict chronological system for narration, so readers inevitably feel confused by the chaotic and complex historical events, making a comprehensive understanding of the work rather difficult. This article reorganizes the stories of the hundred years of Naruto in chronological order using a chronicle format, taking time as the axis and events as clues to sort out the entire work, analyze the causal logic of the plot, and restore the history under the worldview of Naruto for the readers as accurately as possible. Establishment of the timeline: Using the time point on which the compilation of the Jin no Sho was based—the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War in Chapter 691 of the manga, with October 10th as Naruto's 17th birthday as a reference point, the year Konoha Village was established 67 years prior is designated as Year 1 of the Shinobi Era, and all other historical events are marked based on this timeline. This chronicle is compiled based on the original Naruto manga and official databooks. TV animation, games, and novel contents are used for reference only, told primarily from the perspective of the Land of Fire - Konohagakure. Some time points and character ages are derived through deduction and contain a certain degree of deviation. The deduced and analyzed contents are marked in blue italics.

Warring States Period Year -32 (-32 of the Shinobi Era) More than thirty years before the establishment of Konohagakure, approximately in Year -32, the Senju Clan of the Forest and the Uchiha Clan each gave birth to a gifted child—Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara. In this Warring States period filled with warfare and bloodshed, a large number of civilians and even children were dragged into the wars, and the average lifespan of shinobi and citizens was only 30 years. Hashirama's two young younger brothers, Kawarama and Itama, were killed on the battlefield. Madara's family originally had five brothers, leaving only Izuna behind. Against the same historical background and growth environment, the two developed similar ideals, and fate guided them to meet and understand each other. Hashirama and Madara met as children while skipping stones by the river. Under the rule of not revealing their surnames, they became best friends, sparring in Ninjutsu and discussing life ideals. Growing up in a cruel era of war, the two aspired from childhood to become powerful shinobi and establish an ideal village capable of protecting children from the suffering of war, completely transforming this turbulent era. However, bearing the destinies of the Senju of the Forest and the Uchiha, the two had to uphold their family standpoints and cross blades. The two clans remained in continuous opposition and mutual slaughter until they grew into the leaders of their respective clans. During the conflict between the two clans, the Uchiha clan gradually fell into a disadvantageous position, and Madara's younger brother, Uchiha Izuna, was severely wounded by Senju Tobirama with the Flying Thunder God Slashing and subsequently died of his injuries. Some Uchiha clansmen, weary of combat, began defecting to the Senju clan. Hashirama, yearning for peace, issued a truce agreement to the Uchiha clan. First Battle of the Valley of the End After the great battle, Hashirama once again proposed a truce and alliance to Madara, who was head of the clan. Madara was moved by Hashirama's sincerity in seeking peace, and the Uchiha and Senju clans, who had fought for years, ceased hostilities and made peace, forming an alliance. There is no mention of the "First Battle of the Valley of the End" in the original work; the author contrasts the duel between Hashirama and Madara with the duel between Naruto and Sasuke, naming them the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Battles of the Valley of the End respectively. The birth dates and ages at death of Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara are both unknown, but there are two reference points. One is the birthday of Hashirama's eldest granddaughter, Tsunade, on August 2nd of Year 13 of the Shinobi Era. Volume 65, Episode 586 of the anime "Hashirama and Madara" contains flashbacks of Hashirama and Tsunade together, where Tsunade even copies Hashirama's gambling habits. By the standards of high birth rates and high mortality rates in the turbulent era, the generational age gap should be between 20 and 25 years. Thus, Hashirama and Madara were likely born in the range of Years -37 to -27. Taking the median of Year -32, it is quite reasonable for Hashirama to become a grandfather at age 45 when his eldest granddaughter Tsunade was born. Another piece of chronological information is that Madara's younger brother Uchiha Izuna died at age 24. Following Izuna's death, Madara awakened the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, after which the First Battle of the Valley of the End broke out. Following the battle, the Senju and Uchiha forged an alliance; although Konohagakure was not built in a single day, the time of Izuna's death would have been close to Year 1 of the Shinobi Era. Judging by their appearances in flashbacks, Madara is estimated to have been 4 or 5 years older than his younger brother Izuna.

Shinobi Era Year 1 of the Shinobi Era Beneath the cliff deep in the forest of the Land of Fire where they used to play, Hashirama and Madara established a new village. Madara named the village Konohagakure. "Konoha" (Leaves of Trees) referred to the Senju Clan of the Forest represented by Senju Hashirama who could use Wood Release, while "Shi" (Leaves) referred to the Uchiha Clan whose family crest was shaped like a fan leaf. The leader of the village was named "Hokage" by Hashirama, signifying the ninja leader who protects the Land of Fire from the shadows. Large clans such as the Sarutobi, Shimura, and Hyuga joined the alliance in succession, and the village rapidly grew into the most powerful organization in the Land of Fire. After Konohagakure and the Land of Fire, which desired territorial stability, established cooperation, a system of equal status between nations and villages was formed. The world gave high praise to the establishment of Konohagakure, and the system of "one country, one village" was rapidly emulated by various nations. Kumogakure in the Land of Lightning, Iwagakure in the Land of Earth, Kirigakure in the Land of Water, and Sunagakure in the Land of Wind were successively established. The Drums of War Sound Again Year 47 of the shinobi calendar Sasori transforms himself into a puppet, freezing his physical appearance permanently at age 15. In the same year, the Third Kazekage disappears under mysterious circumstances. Deprived of its leader, Sunagakure plunges into chaos, searching everywhere for the Third Kazekage's whereabouts, which triggers a series of incidents. The ruling power of the Five Great Shinobi Nations weakens, and successive invasions and internal conflicts break out across various lands, igniting the Third Shinobi World War and spreading the flames of war across the entire world.

During this war, large-scale direct confrontations erupt between the Land of Fire and the other four great nations. Facing enemies on all fronts along overextended frontlines, Konohagakure confronts an unprecedented shortage of combat strength. It is precisely against this historical backdrop that the Platinum Generation graduates from the Ninja Academy ahead of schedule, is promoted to Chunin, and marches onto the battlefield.

February 14, Year 47: Ayame is born. August 23, Year 47: Temari is born. On the battlefield between the Land of Lightning and the Land of Fire, Konoha's "Yellow Flash" and Kumogakure's A-B duo clash multiple times. Due to their active performances in combat, both become prospective candidates soon to shoulder the name of "Kage."

Year 48 of the shinobi calendar January 11, Year 48: Akatsuchi is born. May 5, Year 48: Deidara, the ultimate artist and "bombing freak," is born. August 20, Year 48: Yamanaka Fu is born. October 24, Year 48: Aburame Torune is born. November 1, Year 48: Chojuro is born. Shiranui Genma, Yuhi Kurenai, Might Guy, Asuma, Shizune, Obito, Rin, and others are promoted to Chunin.

Year 49 of the shinobi calendar Mitarashi Anko enters the Ninja Academy and becomes Orochimaru's student. January 9, Year 49: Haku is born. May 15, Year 49: Kankuro is born. Year 50 of the shinobi calendar Kakashi is promoted to Jonin at age 12. An army from Iwagakure breaks through the Land of Grass and reaches the borders of the Land of Fire. Deploying massive military strength, Iwagakure launches a fierce offensive, planning to breach the defensive perimeter of the Land of Fire in a single stroke, with one thousand shinobi stationed at the front lines. Failing to anticipate Iwagakure's advance speed, Konoha falls into a passive position. Although Konoha immediately dispatches elite forces to intercept them, they still suffer a ferocious assault from the numerically superior Iwagakure forces.

Due to the overextended front lines and the need to stay vigilant against the movements of surrounding nations, sufficient combat strength cannot be deployed to halt the enemy's offensive. To turn the tide, Konoha formulates a strategy to dispatch elite shinobi deep behind enemy lines to sabotage enemy support bases and sever their supply routes. Minato's team—consisting of two Jonin and two Chunin—is assigned special orders to carry out the top-secret mission of destroying Kannabi Bridge.

Serving as a crucial stronghold for Iwagakure's supply lines, Kannabi Bridge is guarded nearby by three formidable Iwagakure Jonin. After the four of them kill the enemy scout Jonin Mahiru, Minato heads to the front-line battlefields to provide support, while Kakashi leads the team to continue the mission of destroying Kannabi Bridge. Soon after, the squad is ambushed by Iwagakure Jonin Kakko and Taiseki, and Nohara Rin is captured. Following a dispute with Kakashi, Obito rushes off alone to rescue Rin. At the critical moment, he awakens the Sharingan and joins forces with the arriving Kakashi to defeat the enemy, successfully rescuing Rin. Kakashi & Obito vs. Kakko However, the enemy uses the Earth Release technique: Rock Shelter Collapse to wreck the terrain. During the retreat, Obito is crushed by a massive boulder while saving Kakashi. With his dying breath, he gives his Sharingan to Kakashi as a gift and entrusts him with protecting Rin. Uchiha Obito dies in action. Relying on the Sharingan combined with Chidori, Kakashi kills the enemy Kakko and, with the assistance of Minato who arrives shortly afterward, successfully destroys the enemy's vital support stronghold, Kannabi Bridge. This battle gives birth to two Sharingan heroes, turning the tide of the war in one fell swoop and laying the foundation for ultimate victory in the subsequent conflicts. It becomes known as the Battle of Kannabi Bridge.

Kirigakure dispatches multiple ANBU operatives, plotting an assault using the Three Tails in an attempt to destroy Konohagakure. Sensing the enemy's motives, Nohara Rin sacrifices herself to thwart the enemy's sinister plot. Nohara Rin dies in action. Nohara Rin: November 15, Year 37 – Year 50; age 12.

At the end of Year 50, the Third Shinobi World War ends. Having paid a devastating price across long frontlines, Konohagakure ultimately achieves victory. The names of the many heroes who sacrificed themselves to secure that victory are engraved upon the Memorial Stone. Faced with the heavy losses inflicted upon Konohagakure by the war, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, takes personal responsibility and resigns from the position of Hokage. Namikaze Minato, who established brilliant military exploits during the war, succeeds him as the Fourth Hokage.

Undercurrents Stir As the war comes to a halt, Konohagakure welcomes a baby boom. The main cast of Naruto makes their grand entrance onto the scene, and the new generation begins stepping onto the stage of history. War-weary Konohagakure expected the clouds to part for the sun and withered trees to spring back to life, ushering in another era of peaceful prosperity, but what awaits them instead is an age of civil strife stirred by undercurrents.

October 10, Year 51 of the shinobi calendar A mysterious masked man attacks Konoha in the middle of the night, and the Nine-Tails goes on a rampage. Because the incident happens abruptly, despite Konoha shinobi fighting desperately to stop it, the Nine-Tails still causes catastrophic destruction, leaving countless shinobi dead or injured. The Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato, and his wife, Uzumaki Kushina, also perish in this incident, an event historically known as the Nine-Tails' Attack. Following the turmoil, Konohagakure's public morale is scattered and various factional forces maintain a facade of unity while harboring divergent aims. The Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, resumes his duties as Hokage.

Year 52 of the shinobi calendar The Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, leads a team in person to uncover a hidden base for anti-human experimentation. Orochimaru's human experiments are exposed, and he defects from Konoha, establishing a new stronghold and gradually developing into an independent faction carving out its own territory.

Year 53 of the shinobi calendar First-grader Uchiha Itachi graduates from the Ninja Academy ahead of schedule to become a Genin at the age of 7.

Year 54 of the shinobi calendar At age 8, Uchiha Itachi awakens the Sharingan. Relations between Kumogakure and Konohagakure—which have endured a state of hostility for years—soften, and both sides decide to forge a peace alliance treaty. On December 27, Year 54, Konohagakure holds a grand celebratory ceremony. The head shinobi of Kumogakure travels to Konoha to attend the ritual and conclude the alliance treaty, with all Konoha shinobi in attendance. However, because that exact same day is the third birthday of Hinata, the eldest daughter of the Hyuga main house, members of the Hyuga clan do not attend the alliance ceremony. Hyuga Neji, belonging to the branch family, has the Caged Bird Cursed Seal carved into him on this very day. That same night, the head shinobi of Kumo attempts to kidnap young Hinata to research the secrets of the Byakugan, but is struck down on the spot by Hyuga Hizashi. Afterward, the Kumogakure delegation accuses Konoha of violating the alliance treaty, and both sides argue endlessly. Kumo even resorts to threatening war unless Konoha hands over the corpse of the party involved. Hyuga Hizashi, father to Hyuga Neji, voluntarily sacrifices himself to protect the main house, dying in place of his older brother.

Year 56 of the shinobi calendar Uchiha Itachi is promoted to Chunin at age 10.

Year 57 of the shinobi calendar March 27, Year 57: Hyuga Hanabi is born.

Year 58 of the shinobi calendar April, Year 58: Ninja Academy entrance ceremony. The new generation born in Year 51 officially enrolls. On the same day, Uchiha Itachi carries out a critical mission, joining the ANBU upon its completion. September, Year 58: The first semester of the Ninja Academy concludes. Uchiha Sasuke achieves the top score in the entire school for his first-semester exams. Uchiha Shisui plans to use Kotoamatsukami to halt the Uchiha coup d'etat at the shrine gathering on the eve of the uprising, but unexpectedly has his right eye stolen by Danzo. Entrusting his left eye to Itachi, Shisui leaps into the Naka River and commits suicide, whereupon Uchiha Itachi awakens the Mangekyou Sharingan. The next day, Uchiha Itachi—who was absent from the gathering—clashes with his clansmen over Shisui's death. Uchiha Fugaku steps in to quell the situation, and Sasuke catches sight of Itachi's Sharingan manifesting in a Mangekyou form.

"My capacity... I feel despair toward this boring clan."

The rift between father and son, resembling a fracture in the family crest upon the wall, portends the fate of the Uchiha clan.

Year 59 of the shinobi calendar At age 13, Uchiha Itachi becomes an ANBU squad captain. Shisui's suicide delays the timing of the Uchiha clan's planned coup d'etat, but the conflict between the Uchiha clan and Konoha's upper echelons escalates day by day. The political situation in Konohagakure takes a sharp turn for the worse. As the situation grows completely irredeemable, Uchiha Itachi executes the Clan Annihilation Operation. The Uchiha family is wiped out in a single night. Uchiha Itachi bears the crime of patricide and matricide, defects from Konoha, becomes an S-rank missing-nin, and joins the Akatsuki, taking the codename "Vermilion" (Zhu).

Year 60 of the shinobi calendar July 7, Year 60: Akamaru is born. The "roaming shrine maiden" Yakushi Nonou dies in action, and Yakushi Kabuto becomes Orochimaru's subordinate, assisting him in conducting various human experiments.

Year 61 of the shinobi calendar Coveting Uchiha Itachi's Sharingan, Orochimaru makes a move against him, but after being countered, seizes the opportunity to break away from the Akatsuki. Lacking manpower, the Akatsuki seeks out Deidara. After a clash between Uchiha Itachi and Deidara, Deidara joins the Akatsuki, taking the codename "Blue" (Qing). That same year, Kakashi transfers out of the ANBU after serving ten years, becoming a Jinnin instructor teaching students who graduate from the Ninja Academy. Acting on Orochimaru's instructions, Yakushi Kabuto begins participating in Konohagakure's Chunin Exams year after year to gather intelligence on new recruits.

The New Generation Year 63 of the shinobi calendar Rock Lee, Hyuga Neji, and Tenten graduate from the Ninja Academy and come under the guidance of Might Guy.

Year 64 of the shinobi calendar Team 7, Team 8, and Team 10 graduate from the Ninja Academy. The story of Naruto begins. The time frame for Part 1 of Naruto spans March to Year 65, the main storyline of Naruto: Shippuden spans Year 67 to October of Year 68, and the plot of Boruto takes place fifteen years after the Fourth Great Ninja War, namely Year 83.
