Minute by minute, the tug-of-war with chakra fell into a deadlock.
After a period of stalemate, the Nine-Tails devised a malicious scheme. It began probing and evoking Naruto's tragic past, attempting to plunge him into despair and corruption. Scene after scene of painful memories continuously surfaced in Naruto's mind: the lonely years of childhood when he was isolated and ostracized by the villagers, those gazes filled with disgust and fear; the life-and-death trials during missions, the heart-wrenching pain of losing comrades... The Nine-Tails used these sorrowful memories to try and destroy the psychological defenses within Naruto.
Under this heavy mental blow, Naruto gradually began to feel overwhelmed. His gaze grew confused and painful, and step by step, he was on the verge of being controlled by the Nine-Tails. His will weakened steadily under the erosion of the Nine-Tails, and his power to resist grew increasingly feeble. At the same time, Naruto's chakra was slowly being devoured by the chakra of the Nine-Tails. That pure chakra which originally belonged to Naruto seemed so fragile and insignificant in front of the powerful and evil force of the Nine-Tails.
