Upon hearing from Uchiha Sasuke that he now possessed the Rinnegan, Itachi Uchiha was completely astounded! Itachi widened his eyes, trying desperately to see clearly what kind of eyes were truly inside Uchiha Sasuke's eye sockets. Yet, with his own vision failing and growing increasingly blurred, every strained effort sent a sharp, agonizing pain through Itachi's eyes. It was already a tremendous struggle, and he found himself entirely unable to make out whether the eyes in Sasuke's sockets were the Sharingan or the Rinnegan. Then, Itachi let out a long sigh, gave up the struggle, and ceased trying to discern what kind of eyes rested in Sasuke's eye sockets. His body trembled slightly, as if feeling a touch of sorrow for his own helplessness.
