Uchiha Itachi was tending to the red, swollen patch on Yuka's forehead. He hadn't uttered a single word since he took his younger brother and sister by the hand and led them back to their room. Although this wasn't all that different from his usual demeanor, both Yuka and Sasuke felt that something was amiss. Sasuke stood nearby, anxiously glancing back and forth between Itachi and Yuka. Several times he opened his mouth to ask, only to close it again for some unknown reason.
Perhaps he was afraid a real conflict had arisen between his older brother and their father, and troubled by the fact that he was still too young to help resolve it. As a result, he was torn over whether to ask. Yuka, however, was not one to agonize over things. Ever since she was little, her motto was simple: if you don't understand, ask. Asking did no harm; if her brother refused to answer, then so be it—she had nothing to lose either way.
So Yuka studied Itachi's expression and asked directly, "Brother, did something happen between you and Father?"
