Shi Lei carefully followed the figure of the bandit ahead as they entered the Second Peak. By now it was deep into the Chou hour of the night. There was not a single bandit to be seen anywhere on the peak, making their defenses appear exceptionally lax. Shi Lei figured that such lax defenses were likely due to two reasons: first, this was an inner peak where outsiders could hardly ever enter; and second, it relied on natural sheer cliffs, meaning that even without strict guards, nothing major would normally go wrong.
