Shen Huaishuang tried to push Bai Yujie away, but the disparity in their physical strength was too great.
No matter how hard she struggled, Bai Yujie did not budge at all.
"Bai Yujie, get off me!"
Suddenly, Bai Yujie leaned in close, and Shen Huaishuang recoiled in fright.
"Bai Yujie, let me go! Get away!"
Shen Huaishuang struggled even more desperately.
"I'm a married woman, don't you dare do anything reckless!"
Having lost his mind, Bai Yujie tried to kiss her again.
"You've already slept with two men, why are you putting on such a hypocritical act?"
Furious, Shen Huaishuang slapped him hard across the face.
This completely enraged Bai Yujie. With a dark, sinister expression, he began tearing at Shen Huaishuang's clothes.
Terrified, Shen Huaishuang burst into tears.
Her tears streamed down uncontrollably.
She lashed out at Bai Yujie with both her hands and feet.
Just as Bai Yujie was about to force himself upon her again, the car shook violently with a loud bang.
It felt as though it had been struck by something.
Startled, Bai Yujie paused for a moment.
Then, the rear window was shattered.
With his own eyes, Bai Yujie saw the rear door of his Maybach being ripped right off its hinges.
He was dumbfounded.
Immediately afterward, Lu Zhengting climbed inside, grabbed him by the collar, and dragged him out of the vehicle.
As he was being hauled out, his skin was scraped by the broken glass, sending agonizing pain shooting through him.
"Are you fucking looking to die?"
Before Bai Yujie could finish his curse, Lu Zhengting pinned him to the ground and began raining heavy blows on him.
"Ah, stop!"
Under Lu Zhengting's iron fists, Bai Yujie felt as though his bones were about to shatter.
Shen Huaishuang crawled out of the car.
She watched as Lu Zhengting struck Bai Yujie blow after blow. Completely defenseless, Bai Yujie spat a mouthful of blood and passed out cold on the ground.
Seeing that Lu Zhengting showed no signs of stopping, Shen Huaishuang hurried over and grabbed his arm.
"Lu Zhengting, stop hitting him."
Lu Zhengting turned his head to look at her.
Only then did Shen Huaishuang see his bloodshot eyes and fierce, ruthless gaze.
She froze.
A Lu Zhengting like this was terrifying.
"Worried about him?" Lu Zhengting asked.
"N—No... It's just that if you beat him to death like this, it won't do you any good either."
After what had just happened, whatever lingering feelings she once had for Bai Yujie were completely gone.
Bai Yujie had actually tried to rape her.
He had lost his mind!
Lu Zhengting stopped and stood up.
"Shen Huaishuang, why did you come to see Bai Yujie alone? Didn't you know he hasn't given up on you? Throwing yourself at him like this—if I hadn't shown up just now, what was your plan? Just surrender to him?"
Shen Huaishuang lowered her head, keeping it pinned low.
She whispered, "I wouldn't have. If you hadn't come, I would have bitten off my tongue to kill myself."
In any case, she possessed the self-respect of a wife and would never do anything to betray Lu Zhengting.
Lu Zhengting was briefly taken aback, then let out a cold laugh. "I didn't take you for a chaste and heroic martyr."
Knowing Lu Zhengting was mocking her, Shen Huaishuang kept quiet and offered no reply.
The two of them stood in silence for a moment.
Shen Huaishuang glanced at Bai Yujie lying motionless on the grass, then took out her phone to call for an emergency ambulance.
"Hello, someone is injured at the horse riding track in Yuehu Village. Please send someone over."
Putting her phone away, Shen Huaishuang noticed Lu Zhengting glaring at her.
Lu Zhengting was angry.
Shen Huaishuang knew it.
Although they hadn't known each other for long, and Lu Zhengting was not a man of many words, she seemed particularly sensitive to his emotions.
She could tell whether he was happy or angry by the slightest shift in his demeanor.
She explained, "Lu Zhengting, don't get the wrong idea. If Bai Yujie had died, you would be facing a murder charge."
"Is that so? Then I suppose I should thank you for your help."
Lu Zhengting turned and walked toward his Bentley.
His Bentley had also suffered heavy damage, its front end caved in from the impact.
Lu Zhengting got into the car and drove off into the distance without even waiting for Shen Huaishuang to get in.
Shen Huaishuang stood frozen.
Her tears fell uncontrollably.
Lu Zhengting still didn't trust her.
She squatted on the ground, crying sorrowfully.
Unexpectedly, the Bentley reversed and came back.
Lu Zhengting got out, strode over to her, roughly hauled her to her feet, dragged her straight to the passenger seat, and forcefully buckled her seatbelt.
The battered car roared to life with a violent rumble.
Glancing sideways, Shen Huaishuang caught sight of Lu Zhengting’s resolute jawline and stern, cold profile.
"Lu—"
"Shut up!"
Shen Huaishuang said no more.
Lu Zhengting was still in the heat of his anger.
Everyone was angry, and anyone could take it out on her.
But what about her?
What had she done wrong?
Shen Huaishuang felt deeply aggrieved.
Yet she knew how worthless tears were; crying would only make Lu Zhengting despise her even more.
So she turned her head in silence and stared out the window.
The car finally came to a halt in Yuehu Village.
Grandma's house and Grandma Su's house stood right next to each other.
After getting out of the car, Shen Huaishuang said, "I'm going to stay at my grandma's house."
Given how things stood between them, it was best for both of them to cool down.
Instead, Lu Zhengting grabbed her hand and led her straight into Grandma Su's house.
They ran right into Old Madame Su at the doorway.
Old Madame Su was overjoyed, her face bursting into a wide smile.
"My granddaughter-in-law, you're back."
Shen Huaishuang greeted her obediently, "Grandma Su."
Old Madame Su walked over, took her hand, and shoved Lu Zhengting aside with a sweep of her arm.
Lu Zhengting: ......
Seeing the speechless look on Lu Zhengting's face, the corners of Shen Huaishuang's lips twitched upward in a faint smile.
Old Madame Su pulled her over to sit down on a chair.
Lu Zhengting headed upstairs.
Old Madame Su chatted warmly with Shen Huaishuang.
"Huaishuang, I haven't seen you in years. Truly, a girl changes eighteen times by adulthood, and you're growing prettier by the day."
Shen Huaishuang smiled shyly. "Grandma Su, you're as young as ever."
Old Madame Su burst into hearty laughter.
"Such a sweet talker, but Grandma is old already."
"Grandma Su isn't old."
Old Madame Su had taken good care of herself, showing little change over the years.
Mainly, she maintained a cheerful mindset, which kept her looking youthful.
Unlike her own grandma, who worried endlessly over her and Shen Dong, carrying a heavy mental burden; even though she was a few years younger than Old Madame Su, she looked much older.
Old Madame Su smiled and said, "Stop calling me Grandma Su. Since you're married to Zhengting now, just call me Grandma, the same as he does."
Shen Huaishuang paused for a moment, then called out, "Grandma."
"Good girl."
Old Madame Su slipped a jade bracelet off her wrist and pressed it into Shen Huaishuang's hand.
"Take this, it's a welcome gift. Later on, Grandma will prepare a proper major gift for you. Your marriage to Zhengting is a momentous occasion—how would you like the wedding to be held? Tell me, and I'll arrange it."
Recognizing that the bracelet was a genuine, high-value piece, Shen Huaishuang tried to return it to Old Madame Su.
"Grandma, I can't accept this."
Old Madame Su stopped her.
"Be a good girl and keep it. This is a token of Grandma's affection, you mustn't refuse."
Left with no choice, Shen Huaishuang accepted it.
Seeing her take it, Old Madame Su smiled brightly. "That's right. Now tell me, what kind of wedding would you like?"
Shen Huaishuang had never given any thought to holding a wedding.
When Old Madame Su asked, she didn't know how to respond.
After a moment's hesitation, she replied, "Grandma, let's skip the wedding. Keeping things simple like this is quite nice."
Old Madame Su patted the back of her hand.
"A wedding is definitely happening. But there's no rush; have a good think about it first, and let me know when you have some ideas."
