He hadn't been addicted in the first place, and now that Tang Ning had brought her team, the young woman's composure had steadied his own heart. With the fear of the unpredictable future diminished, he no longer felt the need for the numbness provided by tobacco. Lin Shengwen had been a lonely child. While he had nannies and guards to look after him, he had received very little companionship from his father. This led him to silently vow that if he ever had a child, he would be a father who grew up alongside them; otherwise, it would be better not to have children at all. Even though, as he grew older, he could understand his father’s hidden burdens, the anxiety and pain of his childhood were things that could never be truly mended.
