Chapter 9

3,577 words18 minutes read

Chen Tian stood up without the slightest trace of fear, saying coldly: "I've finished the food, and now I've got plenty of strength with nowhere to use it."
With that, he actually took the initiative and charged directly at the four men. It wasn't that he was spoiling for a fight. It was simply that he had been so bored in prison that he had taught himself a fist technique called the Mountain-Crushing Fist. It felt quite fun, so he wanted to try it out.
"Bang, bang, bang, bang..." Chen Tian moved with lightning speed, throwing four punches the moment he closed in. Because he was wearing handcuffs, he used both hands in tandem!
The first man didn't even have time to react before he felt his body grow light and tilt backward. He slammed into the iron door with such force that it seemed to leave a human-shaped imprint on the metal. The second man tried to react, but he was a fraction too slow. He was sent flying by the momentum, crashing straight into the first man. Instantly, the first man vomited all the undigested contents of his stomach directly onto the back of the second man's head. When the third man flew backward, the exact same thing happened—the second man expelled whatever food was left in his stomach all over him.
The fourth man had the most time to react, and he raised his fist to meet Chen Tian's blow head-on. However, his shoulder blade visibly bulged out from his back. His entire arm bone was forcefully dislodged from his shoulder by at least ten centimeters.
"Ah..." Cries of agony rang out one after another. The four men were plastered flat against the iron door like pieces of dough, seemingly fused together.
Chen Tian blew the dust off his knuckles and said with great satisfaction: "As expected, this kind of violent martial art suits me very well." The other inmates in the cell now looked upon Chen Tian as if he were a deity, showering him with praises. Each of them wore a look of thrilled terror, as though they had just watched an incredible movie.
"Boss, you're my idol!" "Boss, you're too awesome! Please be my dad!" "Boss, can you teach me kung fu? I'll give you all my family property and all my women!" "..."
Chapter 18: Scared Out of Their Wits! Chen Tian looked at the bunch of fellows before him, who were getting more and more carried away. They were practically offering up their own mothers next.
"Thud..." Only then did the four elite thugs collapse to the floor like the heavens were falling, completely unconscious. Chen Tian sat down with a sense of satisfaction, and the crowd swarmed around him again—massaging his shoulders, pounding his back, and kneading his feet, leaving no spot unattended.
Meanwhile, outside the prison, Chief Wang was hurrying over at top speed. Captain Guo still wore a leisurely, confident smile as he asked: "Chief Wang, you mentioned on the phone that there was something important. What is it?"
Chief Wang glared at Captain Guo in furious exasperation: "Where is Chen Tian? How is he?" "Oh, Chen Tian is still kicking. As I told Chief Wang earlier, you can rest easy—I'm not going to take his life, just teach him a little lesson."
*Slap...* Chief Wang raised his hand and struck him across the face. At the same time, he cursed loudly: "I'm fucking asking you, how is Chen Tian?!" "Ch-Chief Wang, what's going on?"
Guo Yingjie looked completely bewildered, feeling only a burning, stinging pain across his cheek. Chief Wang raised his fan-like palm once more. Guo Yingjie clutched his face and hurriedly retreated. "Chief Wang, please calm your anger! I sent the Four Heavenly Kings of the Night King inside; it should all be over by now." "Chen Tian... Chen Tian should be a cripple by now, with all four limbs broken and completely unable to take care of himself."
Chief Wang took a deep breath, wearing a terrifying, mirthless smile. "Good. Very good." "Chief Wang, Chen Tian is just a nobody. What on earth happened?" "Nothing. Let me tell you this: whatever happened to Chen Tian was entirely your own doing. Do you understand?" "Ah, r-right. It was entirely my own doing, and it has nothing to do with Chief Wang." "Very good. If you dare utter a single extra word, you know what the consequences will be," Chief Wang said with a grimace.
Guo Yingjie felt a chill in his heart and nodded in a daze. He had a very bad premonition—what on earth could have made Chief Wang this furious? And the fact that Chief Wang hadn't mentioned it on the phone and had come over in person... was he warning him?
Just as he was thinking this, a motorcade pulled up with a screech of tires right in front of the entrance. Huang Zhonghu, leading the convoy, said with extreme agitation: "Chief Wang, you have a lot of nerve! Chen Tian committed no crime, and even the Su Family said it was a misunderstanding and told you to release him. Yet you still dared to arrest Chen Tian?" "What kind of personal grudge do you have against Chen Tian?"
Chief Wang walked over looking utterly terrified, bent low, and said: "Mayor, it's my fault. I failed to properly discipline my subordinates, allowing someone to abuse public office for personal revenge. I never imagined it would turn out like this."
What? Hearing this, Guo Yingjie was struck with profound shock. It finally dawned on him that the person standing before him was none other than Mayor Huang, the highest authority in Jiangzhou. If he hadn't misheard, was the mayor here to demand Chen Tian's release? Instantly, his internal organs churned violently.
"Hmph, I'll deal with you later. Where is Chen Tian? I want to see Chen Tian!" "W-Well then, why haven't you had Chen Tian brought over immediately?" Mayor Huang pushed Chief Wang aside and snapped furiously: "Lead the way. I'll go get him myself."
The group marched furiously into the prison behind the mayor. Chief Wang was so nervous his face felt as though it had been scorched by fire, and what poured from his pores wasn't sweat, but grease. He couldn't imagine whether Mayor Huang would tear the prison down the moment he saw a crippled Chen Tian.
They stopped outside the prison cell. The anxiety in the hearts of Chief Wang and Captain Guo reached an indescribable peak. Sweat poured continuously down their heads!
*Clank...* The iron door was finally unlocked. However, when the people outside saw the scene within, their expressions varied wildly, each face a picture of utter astonishment.
Chen Tian was completely unharmed? Handcuffed, Chen Tian had somehow managed to knock out four ferocious, violent thugs? Was he even human?!
Captain Guo was dumbfounded! Chief Wang was struck stupid.
"Haha, Chen Tian, thank goodness you're alright! Don't worry, whoever framed you and threw you in prison, I'll make them regret being born." Seeing Chen Tian safe and sound, Huang Zhonghu laughed heartily.
Chen Tian, however, frowned in utter puzzlement: "Why is it you? Shouldn't you be looking after your daughter? What are you doing here?" "Impudent! This is Mayor Huang of Jiangzhou," Chief Wang roared.
Only then did Chen Tian look surprised. "So it's Mayor Huang. No wonder your name sounded a bit familiar." However, Huang Zhonghu's gaze suddenly turned fierce. Utterly disgusted by Chief Wang's attempt to suck up to him, he raised his hand and delivered a sharp slap. "Slap!" "Did I tell you to flap your gums?" "Mayor, please calm your anger! Mayor, please calm your anger!" "Hurry up and unlock his cuffs! Are you trying to get us all killed?!" "Y-Yes, right away, unlock them!"
Chief Wang was beaten dizzy and didn't dare let out a single fart. These men appeared cultured and refined in public, but when their tempers flared, they were terrifying.
Huang Zhonghu grabbed Chen Tian's hand and glared at the crowd: "I don't know who had the audacity to frame my benefactor, Huang Zhonghu, but rest assured, not a single one of you will get away with it." "Chen Tian—no, Divine Doctor Chen, come outside with me. I'm hosting a banquet to apologize to you," Huang Zhonghu said with a smile.
Chen Tian said sheepishly: "Mayor Huang, you flatter me. How could I dare accept that?" "Divine Doctor Chen, you're mistaken. You saved my precious daughter, so it is only right that I thank you."
With that, Chen Tian swaggered out of the prison in the company of the mayor. The group of brothers in the cell stared blankly at Chen Tian's receding figure, filled with intense envy. "If I'm not mistaken, the person who just left was the mayor, right?" "If I'm not mistaken, that tiger of a police chief just got slapped across the face, right?" "If I'm not mistaken, our boss just left laughing and chatting with the mayor, right?" "Ah, Boss! Don't leave us behind! We can't bear to see you go!"
A group of hardened criminals wept bitterly and reluctantly. ...
Just as Chen Tian left in the company of Mayor Huang, Su Wanyue rushed over. Learning that Chen Tian had already left, she couldn't help clenching her delicate fists in anger. This Chen Tian was simply too much! She had come here personally to pick him up—what more did he want? How could he just leave without even waiting?!
Inside the prison, once Guo Yingjie learned what had happened, he dropped to his knees before Chief Wang with a heavy thud. "Chief Wang, considering our good relationship, I'm begging you to save my life! Please!"
Chief Wang wore a furious expression: "I still don't understand—from the hospital to the prison, what deep, bloody feud did you have with Chen Tian?" "Hmph, you even tricked me into helping you! Because of you, I've been implicated as well, and I don't even know if the mayor will show mercy." "From this moment on, you are relieved of your duties. You abused public power to frame Chen Tian and coerced a confession through torture in prison." "Men! Drag Captain Guo away and send him to the Procuratorate for a thorough investigation." "No! Chief Wang, Chief Wang, please help me! I'm begging you, no!"
With lingering fear, Chief Wang let out a cold snort: "Fortunately Chen Tian is fine. Otherwise, not only would our jobs be gone, but we might have ended up in prison ourselves." "If you dare mention so much as a single syllable of my name, all your accumulated wealth and your entire family will certainly be finished." "N-No, I wouldn't dare! Chief Wang, spare my life!"
Terrified beyond measure, Guo Yingjie kowtowed to Chief Wang once more. "Bear the consequences of your own actions." Gritting his teeth, Chief Wang walked toward the exit while instructing his attendants: "Drive me back. Prepare generous gifts immediately; I'm going to find Mayor Huang to make amends."
And so, the entire prison returned to its former peace. ...
Mayor Huang personally invited Chen Tian back to his home. Only then did Chen Tian discover that Mayor Huang and the Su Family lived in the very same upscale residential district. No wonder he had run into the man's daughter trying to jump into the river not far from his own doorstep. For some unknown reason, his daughter had sunk into such a severe state of depression!
At this moment, a banquet had already been prepared at the mayor's residence. Delicacies from land and sea were fully laid out, awaiting the arrival of the guest. This spread was by no means inferior to the Su Family's banquet. Another chance to eat his fill! Chen Tian was overjoyed.
"Come, come, Divine Doctor Chen, let me propose a toast to you and offer my apologies." Chen Tian hurriedly waved his hand: "Mayor Huang, you're being too formal. This has nothing to do with you." "Hahaha, Divine Doctor Chen is truly magnanimous. I'm proud to call you a friend." Seeing that Chen Tian harbored no anger at all, Huang Zhonghu was extremely pleased.
At that moment, a guard at the front gate hurried over to report: "Mayor, Chief Wang is outside the gate, wishing to seek your forgiveness in person."
Huang Zhonghu frowned slightly. "Tell him to get as far away as possible. Tell him that Divine Doctor Chen has already forgiven him, and as for the person who framed Divine Doctor Chen, let them be dealt with according to the law." "In addition, tell him to keep his eyes wide open next time—Divine Doctor Chen is my brother." "..."
Chapter 19: Go Ahead and Brag! Cure Her and I'll Give You a Million! Having received explicit instructions from Mayor Huang, Chief Wang finally set down the heavy stone in his heart. At least he knew he was safe for the time being. He truly hadn't expected that a nameless nobody he had never even heard of could almost cost him his job. But he no longer dared to test the waters; the name Chen Tian was now deeply etched into his mind. Otherwise, running into another idiot like Guo Yingjie next time would genuinely get him killed. ...
Inside the villa, Mayor Huang was personally pouring wine for Chen Tian, appearing exceptionally warm and cordial. He repeatedly looked Chen Tian up and down, gazing at him from left to right as if trying to figure something out. It made Chen Tian feel a bit uneasy.
"Divine Doctor Chen is so young, roughly the same age as my daughter, but I never imagined your medical skills would have reached such a terrifying level—to the point where even Divine Doctor Chen is your disciple?" As Huang Zhonghu said this, he felt his worldview shaking slightly.
Hearing this, a flash of realization crossed Chen Tian's mind. Could it be that Divine Doctor Chen had been the one to send Mayor Huang to find him? Except he hadn't even taken that old man on as a disciple yet! Still, the mayor's talent for flattery far surpassed what Chen Tian had encountered back at the hospital. "You flatter me, Mayor," Chen Tian replied modestly.
Hesitating for a moment, Huang Zhonghu said with some embarrassment: "Yesterday, Divine Doctor Chen jumped off the Jiangcheng Bridge without the slightest hesitation and pulled my daughter out of the Jaws of Hell. I, Huang Zhonghu, truly have no way to repay this." "However, upon learning of your extraordinary medical prowess, I couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope, and I must ask you to lend a hand once more to treat my daughter's illness."
Chen Tian instantly understood what the mayor was getting at, and with a smile, he said: "Mayor Huang, you're being too polite. You can just call me by my name. As for that girl's condition, I can give it a try." "That's wonderful!" Huang Zhonghu clapped his hands in mounting excitement.
Chen Tian frowned slightly, asking with curiosity: "Depression is largely driven by psychological factors. I don't quite understand—your daughter is so young, how did she end up with such severe depression?" Sighing heavily, Huang Zhonghu murmured: "Although I am the mayor, long before I took this position, I handled a major criminal case." "It was a terrifying crime syndicate. To make their escape, they seized my daughter and wife." "My wife was brutally murdered before our eyes, and my poor daughter witnessed her mother's death firsthand." "Ever since then, her mental state has deteriorated day by day. It has become extremely severe now, and the slightest lapse in attention could drive her to end her own life."
Hearing this, Chen Tian was profoundly shocked. With trauma of that magnitude, it was no wonder she had ended up like this. Even if it were him, he couldn't guarantee he'd be able to walk away from it unscathed. "The young miss is truly pitiful. May I ask how she is addressed?" Chen Tian asked, filled with sympathy. "My daughter's name is Huang Yimeng."
Chen Tian nodded, unable to resist casting a glance toward Huang Yimeng. Just at that moment, the guard at the entrance hurried in with another report. "Mayor, a man calling himself Medicine King Sun is outside, requesting an audience." "What? Medicine King Sun is here?"
Embarrassed, Huang Zhonghu glanced at Chen Tian before striding toward the entrance. Soon, the renowned Medicine King Sun was ushered in, accompanied by a young man and woman. "Medicine King Sun, please take a seat," Mayor Huang greeted him.
Medicine King Sun replied politely, offering an explanation: "Please forgive me for being so late, Mayor Huang, and I hope you aren't displeased. There was an international psychiatric symposium, and as the country's lead researcher in that field, I simply had to attend." "The moment I returned, I heard that your esteemed daughter had attempted to drown herself, so I rushed over without stopping. By the time I arrived in Jiangzhou, it was already rather late." "You're too kind, Medicine King Sun. It's just poor timing," Huang Zhonghu said.
Nearby, Chen Tian had overheard the entire exchange. It was clear that Mayor Huang had all along been agonizing over his daughter's illness and had sought out numerous specialists. And this particular specialist, the most famous psychiatric expert in Jiangzhou, had rushed over specifically to treat her. It put the mayor in an awkward position, having just invited Chen Tian over only for Medicine King Sun to arrive as well. The timing truly couldn't have been worse.
At that moment, Medicine King Sun and the young man and woman accompanying him were all sizing Chen Tian up. They couldn't understand why a young man in such ordinary clothes was sitting in the mayor's home. Mayor Huang hurriedly introduced them: "Medicine King Sun, this is my daughter's savior, and also a doctor."
Hearing this, Medicine King Sun grasped the situation. Cupping his hands, he looked at Chen Tian and asked: "I wonder where Doctor Chen practices? And what is your professional title?" His wording right from the start was extremely sharp!
"Oh, I just quit my job. I'm currently an unemployed vagrant, I haven't received my medical license yet, and I don't have a title." "Pfft..." It would have been better if he hadn't explained. The moment those words left his mouth, the young man and woman burst into laughter.
With an exaggerated expression, Medicine King Sun looked at Huang Zhonghu and offered a well-intentioned warning: "Mayor Huang, your esteemed daughter's condition cannot withstand any further psychological trauma. You mustn't blindly turn to any quack out of desperation; it will only produce the exact opposite of the desired effect." Huang Zhonghu nodded, essentially validating his words.
Without wasting any more breath, Medicine King Sun sat down directly in front of Huang Yimeng and began to examine her! After a long while, Mayor Huang, standing anxiously by his side, asked: "How is it, Medicine King Sun?" "It's too late. Your esteemed daughter has suffered a complete mental collapse and is beyond correction." "What?!" Huang Zhonghu turned pale with shock.
Medicine King Sun stated gravely: "I've tested her psychological state, and she has fallen into an abyss of despair. To put it in layman's terms, she has lost her mind." "Th-This... I beg Medicine King Sun to find a way to save my daughter!" Even as the mayor of a city, Huang Zhonghu couldn't hold back the tears welling in his eyes. "It's somewhat difficult. At present, the country lacks effective therapeutic treatments of this caliber." Mayor Huang pressed further: "Then, Medicine King Sun, are there any alternative courses of action?"
"There are. As the Medicine King, I have researched many miraculous elixirs for mental disorders. What others cannot treat, I can. We can adopt Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies, though the process is lengthy—it may take three to five years to see results." "How would it be treated?" "For the young miss's condition, I would formulate a prescription and refine medicinal pills to dispel her pent-up melancholy." "However, secret family recipes require expensive medicinal herbs to brew and refine, so the price is somewhat high."
Mayor Huang pursued: "How high?" "Ten thousand per pill, and one must be taken orally every day."
Had Medicine King Sun not been a renowned specialist, Chen Tian would have thought he was just peddling snake oil. Yet it wasn't particularly surprising; if mental illnesses could be cured so easily, psychiatric hospitals wouldn't need to exist. It was just that Chen Tian hadn't expected these intractable conditions to be so lucrative. Ten thousand a pill, one pill a day, taken consistently for three to five years—the total was simply unimaginable.
At that moment, using his spiritual qi diagnostic technique out of sheer curiosity, Chen Tian scanned Huang Yimeng, and a line of text instantly popped into his mind. A smile gradually spread across Chen Tian's face. "Mayor Huang, actually, there are other methods that don't need to be this troublesome." "Ah, Chen Tian, are you serious?" Huang Zhonghu asked, extremely surprised.
Nodding with absolute certainty, Chen Tian said: "I'm dead serious."
Hearing this, Medicine King Sun immediately looked displeased: "This unlicensed Doctor Chen, what kind of methods do you propose?" "Mental derangement may stem from psychological origins, but over time, all of the body's systems fall into complete disarray—such as the endocrine system and the nervous system."
