Here, there was none of the restless clamor of the Sanlitun bars, none of those garish, chaotic electronic beats and dances, and certainly no drunken revelry or howling. Patrons sat clustered around tables, either chatting in low voices or appreciating the music. In the corners, couples whispered sweet nothings to each other, while well-trained waiters moved between them, trays in hand, their footsteps light and quiet.
On stage, a delicate-looking female singer was playing folk music. Those songs of love and romance, those lyrics filled with melancholy and longing, seemed to flow like a murmuring stream into the ears and hearts of the listeners.
