Looking back at the domestic pop music scene in 2015, there is very little worth writing home about. The mainstream market remained occupied by fast-paced tunes and catchy, disposable songs. While established singers released quite a few new albums, few were able to lead trends or cause a sensation. As for the new generation of artists, they debuted via an endless stream of talent shows, following the same tired paths worn down by countless others before them.
This once left me feeling deeply worried. Where was domestic pop music heading? Was it destined to continue plunging into the abyss of plagiarism, imitation, and trend-chasing, or could it stumble forward through hardship, exploration, and struggle?
However, the emergence of a young singer-songwriter has blown a fresh breeze into the long-stagnant pop music scene. With his nostalgia-driven folk, his world-weary yet passionate light rock, and his seemingly inexhaustible well of melodic inspiration, his original works are a breath of fresh air—like the first light of dawn, bringing hope and brightness. Many of you have likely already guessed the name of this young artist. On the eve of the 2016 Asian Chinese Pop Music Chart awards ceremony, I sincerely hope that more support and recognition will be given to such truly talented young people; only then will the future of the pop music scene have any hope.
