The predecessor to Beijing Film Academy was the Peking Film Institute, founded in 1946, making it exactly sixty years old this year.
It is the largest specialized film and television institution in the country and in Asia, jointly established by the Beijing Municipal Government, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the Ministry of Education. Honored as the "cradle of Chinese cinematic talent," it enjoys a worldwide reputation.
Beijing Film Academy has a total of eleven undergraduate majors, covering literature, directing, acting, cinematography, sound recording, art design, management, animation, as well as film theory and technology. It encompasses every trade and profession in film and television production, with a student body and faculty totaling over 4,000.
