Emperor Wu of Great Han was a historical costume drama that began filming the previous year. It invited many of the country's top-tier stars to join the cast, and its director, Lu Zhiyong, was a renowned filmmaker as well, making it a truly influential blockbuster.
At the time, Emperor Wu of Great Han was being shot at Jinling Film and Television City. Just after wrapping up Autumn in My Heart, Lu Chen, through the introduction of Quande boss Zhang De, made a cameo appearance in a small role in the film. He played a minor warrior under the command of the General of Agile Cavalry, Huo Qubing, with only a few lines of dialogue.
From pre-production to post-production, the film took over a year, and its release was rushed out just before the summer vacation season to avoid competing with imported Hollywood blockbusters.
