An ambitious and capable insider could easily pull together a crew, buy a passable script, and secure massive investments. Then, with a budget of at most a million or two and just half a month or a month of shooting, they could crank out a movie and rake in a fortune.
However, that golden age of the Hong Kong entertainment industry had passed more than a decade ago. Today, Hong Kong film and television companies were down to at most a quarter of their peak number. Even so, the total count remained substantial, and those that managed to survive usually possessed their own solid foundations and unique traits.
