The new film support policy in Hong Kong, also known as the Hong Kong Film Revitalization Support Program, was introduced in 2016.
The core of this policy is to "create a hundred outstanding Hong Kong films and revive the prosperity of the film and television industry." To this end, the Hong Kong government established a special budget and reached cooperation agreements with relevant mainland departments to recommend 20 Hong Kong-produced (including Mainland-Hong Kong co-productions) films each year for theatrical release in the mainland.
This is the so-called green channel for Hong Kong films. According to the agreement between the two sides, in addition to enjoying box office revenue sharing and preferential tax policies, recommended Hong Kong films also have a basic guarantee regarding theater screen allocation.
