Motion capture technology, or "Mocap," refers to the use of sensors, signal capture, data transmission, and data processing equipment to measure, track, and record the movement trajectories of objects in three-dimensional space, ultimately establishing corresponding 3D spatial coordinate data.
This technology was born in the 1970s, initially serving as a tool for photographic image analysis in biomechanical research. As it matured, it expanded into fields such as education, training, sports, computer animation, television, film, and video games.
In 2009, during the production of the blockbuster science fiction film *Legend of the Starry Sky*, the renowned American director McCart utilized motion capture for all CG effects. This marked a perfect integration of Mocap in cinema, giving the technology a milestone significance in the film industry. When *Legend of the Starry Sky* was officially released in 2011, it grossed over two billion dollars worldwide, won five Oscars, and received numerous Academy Scientific and Technical Awards—achievements for which motion capture technology deserved no small amount of credit.
