He really couldn't understand Xiǎo Méng anymore; she was clearly terrified, yet insisted on trying. Did she think this would make him pity her? Stop dreaming.
He just disliked the little traitor eating food he had already consumed. Sòng Yán's mind raced, and as he finished tidying up, he prepared to leave. When he turned back, he saw Xiǎo Méng standing silently behind him, tears welling up in her eyes.
Sòng Yán's heart lurched, and he took a step back, his lower back hitting the edge of the sink. "Méng méng, you should go upstairs," Sòng Yán said coldly, his expression unwavering. Xiǎo Méng's lips trembled slightly.
Under Sòng Yán's sharp gaze, she slowly shook her head. "Ā Yán, I have something to tell you." As she spoke, Xiǎo Méng reached out as if to touch him, but Sòng Yán subtly dodged.
She bit her lower lip, her emotions threatening to overwhelm her, but she quickly regained control. She withdrew her hand, feigned a relaxed posture, and then looked at Sòng Yán with anticipation. "Ā Yán, can I go out with you today?
I'm scared to be alone in the room..." As she spoke, she placed her hands under her chin, looking extremely hopeful for Sòng Yán's agreement. His throat felt itchy and uncomfortable, and Sòng Yán instinctively wanted to agree.
The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he still lowered his gaze. "No." Xiǎo Méng's eyes instantly welled up upon being rejected, and the emotions she had suppressed surged back.
She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't know how. She could only sniffle, lowering her head to hide her distress, her fair, tender hands repeatedly wiping her face as if to erase the tears, convincing herself that if she wiped them away, she hadn't cried, and wouldn't be embarrassed. After a long pause, they stood in the kitchen, neither speaking.
Sòng Yán kept his eyes lowered, trying to suppress the urge to comfort Xiǎo Méng, waiting for her to finish crying. Low sobs echoed through the house. Xiǎo Méng spoke with difficulty: "Ā Yán, what's wrong with you these past two days?
Did I do something wrong? Please don't ignore me, okay..." Xiǎo Méng cried as she spoke, "Ā Yán, are you still angry about that day?
I know I was wrong, Ā Yán can bite me, drink my blood, but please don't ignore me, okay? I only have Ā Yán now. If Ā Yán ignores me, I'm so scared."
After speaking, Xiǎo Méng lunged forward without hesitation, praying that Sòng Yán wouldn't dodge, otherwise, she would hit the sink. Perhaps Xiǎo Méng's hope had an effect. She didn't hit the hard, cold sink, but she also didn't fall into Sòng Yán's arms.
A large hand blocked her forehead and slowly pushed her away. Xiǎo Méng's expression was one of bewilderment. Sòng Yán's clear, low voice came from above her head.
"Méng méng, I'm sorry, I can't forget..." the way you backed away. Some hurts, once inflicted, are not easily forgotten.
As the time since his rebirth increased, the memories of his past life began to fade, but the memories of those few days became even more vivid. Especially the image of Xiǎo Méng looking at him with fear and slowly backing away, it had left a deep imprint on his mind, haunting his dreams no matter how much he tried to ignore it late at night. And in the dream, Xiǎo Méng never came back for him.
He died alone in a dark basement. Xiǎo Méng's expression was like a shattered stained-glass lamp, all its brilliance gone. She stood frozen in place.
Sòng Yán closed his eyes, walked around Xiǎo Méng, and strode out the door. Xiǎo Méng quickly came to her senses, turned, and chased after him, grabbing the hem of his clothes and hugging him from behind. Sòng Yán's body had no warmth; hugging him was like holding large blocks of ice.
Xiǎo Méng trembled but still held him tightly. There wasn't an inch of space between them; they were pressed together closely, the girl's chest against his back, soft and warm. "Ā Yán, can you take me with you?
I want to be with you, no matter what you do, I want to follow. I swear, what happened that day will never happen again, really, really..." Sòng Yán was either startled by her actions or word, and for a moment, he didn't respond verbally or physically.
If Xiǎo Méng hadn't felt his steadily rising and falling chest and abdomen, she would have thought she was embracing a lifeless body without any sign of life. The atmosphere was incredibly awkward, yet also intimate. Jiǔjiǔ couldn't bear it any longer and spoke up: "Méng méng, why don't you try my method?
If you work hard to become strong, you can conquer the villain." It had said that strong women were more desirable in the Apocalypse, but Méng méng insisted on being a soft, delicate young lady. Now, even if she wanted to strip the villain's clothes off and throw him on the bed, she lacked the ability.
"Honestly, Méng méng, you should practice your supernatural ability right now. Although I don't know what kind of ability it is, it can at least produce water, so just treat it as a water-elemental ability." Then, once Xiǎo Méng was powerful enough, she could directly conquer the villain!
This way, the mission would be more than half complete, and they could live a good life together, the girl and the zombie, and then move on to the next world! Jiǔjiǔ's interruption made Xiǎo Méng feel that the romantic bubble between them had burst, causing her to lose her acting momentum. "Stupid Jiǔjiǔ, can't you see I'm at a critical moment?"
Xiǎo Méng gritted her teeth and blocked it for a few minutes. After a long while, Sòng Yán slowly pried her hands off. Xiǎo Méng thought there was no hope of going with him this time, but as he reached the door, he suddenly said, "Keep up."
Sòng Yán had changed his mind. He would take her with him and let her see how he tore his prey apart, hoping to scare her. Then, when he wanted to take revenge on her someday, this little traitor would be so weak-kneed she wouldn't be able to move, willing to be molded and squashed by him.
Xiǎo Méng didn't know what Sòng Yán was thinking. All she knew was that she could finally go out with Sòng Yán and wouldn't have to worry while stuck in the farmhouse restaurant. She cheered, bouncing happily towards Sòng Yán's side, "I knew Ā Yán was the best!"
Sòng Yán glanced at her indifferently. The girl's delicate and lovely face was as rosy as peach blossoms, her willow-like eyebrows slightly raised in happiness, and even her trembling eyelashes seemed to shimmer with joy. He coldly snorted inwardly, wishing she could smile this happily later.
Sòng Yán locked the door and big strides headed towards the Paladin vehicle parked in the yard, which the former owner of the farmhouse restaurant used for patrols. Before he could speak, Xiǎo Méng obediently sat in the passenger seat. She sat upright, like a model student.
Then, with a pair of clear, watery eyes, she looked at him without blinking. "Ā Yán, where are we going?" Seeing Sòng Yán get into the driver's seat, Xiǎo Méng asked with anticipation.
Sòng Yán's gaze was straight ahead. Even though Xiǎo Méng kept looking at him, he didn't turn his head, merely saying in a cold tone, "Into the deep mountains." Then, with the chugging sound of the Paladin starting up, Sòng Yán drove the car out of the yard, following the route they had taken into the mountains over the past few days, heading deeper in.
