The dim moonlight cast a hazy and mysterious veil over the entire encampment. Clad in a black martial suit and gripping a long sword, Lin Chen walked with steady strides as he patrolled the camp. His gaze was sharp, missing not a single suspicious sign. A gentle breeze blew past, carrying a chill and bringing to his nose a faint, elusive scent of blood. Lin Chen's heart tightened instantly; years of combat experience told him that danger was imminent. Almost at the exact moment he sensed something was amiss, the Shadow Guard emerged silently from all directions like ghosts. Dressed in black night-garb that blended seamlessly with the darkness, they wore ferocious masks that revealed only pairs of cold, gleaming eyes. The weapons in their hands—some sharp daggers, others heavy battle-axes—flickered with a chilling light in the faint moonlight.
