Wang Xiaohua chatted with Aran for a while before deciding it was time to head home. Since she had brought some flatbreads over for Uncle Gu, her own family was waiting for her to eat, though she promised to return in the afternoon to play with Aran again.
"Wait a moment, Xiaohua," Aran said. "You brought those flatbreads for my father, and I also bought some food back from town. Here, take these five steamed buns home to eat." Aran took the buns wrapped in oil paper from her bamboo basket and placed half of them into the bowl Wang Xiaohua had brought the flatbreads in.
"Oh, Aran, you don't have to," Wang Xiaohua declined. "When we were little, whenever Uncle Gu brought you treats from town, you’d always share them with me. I only brought over a few small flatbreads."
