Chapter 16

Chǔ Xīyuè had mild obsessive-compulsive disorder and liked to arrange things neatly.
However, the floor of the space warehouse was now piled haphazardly with all sorts of packing boxes, which immediately made her feel uncomfortable all over.
She felt that she needed to purchase a batch of shelving first, otherwise, the entire space warehouse would likely be a dreadful sight.
Mèng Jǐngtiān's eyes lit up upon hearing this; he knew how to handle it.
"I have a friend who specializes in making this kind of storage shelving. I'll give him a call later and see if he has ready stock."
"Great! If they have them, it'll save us time ordering," Chǔ Xīyuè replied.
After breakfast, Mèng Jǐngtiān immediately called his friend.
As luck would have it, they did have stock, piled up in their factory's warehouse.
Upon hearing Mèng Jǐngtiān's need, his friend offered a cost price. They ordered 1,000 sets of steel structure combined shelving units, each 5 meters long, 1 meter wide, and 4 meters high, at a price of 1450 yuan per set.
This alone cost 1.45 million yuan for the shelving.
With the shelving sorted, the issue of receiving the goods arose.
Chǔ Xīyuè decisively booked a large warehouse on the west side of the city.
Although City H wouldn't be their main hub for stockpiling supplies, there would still be items needing to be moved in the coming months, and having a warehouse would be very convenient.
Once Chǔ Xīyuè confirmed with the real estate agent, Mèng Jǐngtiān sent the delivery address to the supplier.
Since the shelving installation would take about three to four days, Chǔ Xīyuè and Mèng Jǐngtiān discussed and decided to postpone their departure by a few days.
During these days, they could use the truck to purchase a batch of fruit saplings, seeds, poultry, and other similar items.
After the apocalypse, these items would either mutate or decay. If they didn't collect more now, they might not even be able to eat them after the end of the world.
After reaching an agreement, the three of them prepared to go about their own tasks.
Suddenly, Chǔ Xīyuè remembered the gold, silver, jade, and jewelry she had put into her space warehouse last night.
These items were only valuable now; after the apocalypse, they wouldn't even be worth a loaf of bread.
"Uncle, I have some jewelry here too. Let's get rid of it all," she said, about to take the jewelry out from the main house in her space.
But when she flipped her palm, only two inexpensive gold necklaces and a few designer alloy bracelets fell out.
Chǔ Xīyuè was stunned.
Where was her jewelry?!
Her jade bangles, her peace buckles, her gold ingots?
Why were they all gone?!
Mèng Chángqīng and Mèng Jǐngtiān looked bewildered, not understanding what had happened to their niece/sister, or why she had suddenly frozen mid-sentence.
"Yuèyuè?" Mèng Jǐngtiān called out when Chǔ Xīyuè didn't respond for a long time.
Chǔ Xīyuè snapped back to attention at his voice.
However, she had a very important matter to confirm and could only hurriedly say, "Wait for me!"
Then she rushed into her room.
The moment she entered, Chǔ Xīyuè vanished from her spot.
Inside the space, Chǔ Xīyuè searched almost the entire wooden house, including the small courtyard, but couldn't find the slightest trace of the jewelry.
The jewelry boxes were still neatly placed on the table in the main house, but the jewelry inside had vanished without a trace.
This was truly strange!
She had a bold guess – could the jewelry have been directly absorbed by the space?
Didn't many novels have plots like this?
Perhaps her space was also this kind of entity?
Otherwise, it was hard to explain why all her other belongings in the space were still there, except for the gold, silver, and jade.
Could these items contain some form of energy that could help the space level up?
Since she had thought of it, the only way to know was to test it.
After leaving the space, Chǔ Xīyuè immediately asked Mèng Chángqīng for two jade bangles.
Mèng Chángqīng gave them to her without asking any questions.
This time, Chǔ Xīyuè entered the space holding the two jade bangles.
As expected, within a few breaths, the jade bangles in her hands began to decompose.
In less than a minute's time, there wasn't even a speck of powder left of the jade bangles in her hands.
Now, Chǔ Xīyuè was certain: the space could indeed absorb this energy.
She wondered if absorbing this energy would allow the space to level up.
After a moment's thought, she immediately made up her mind.
She wouldn't know if it was possible without trying.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
She would take the plunge!
When she exited the space this time, Chǔ Xīyuè directly explained the reason to Mèng Chángqīng.
"Uncle, all the gold, silver, and jade I put into the space have been absorbed by it.
I was wondering if absorbing this energy might allow the space to level up, so..."
"Alright! Uncle understands," Mèng Chángqīng said.
Before Chǔ Xīyuè could finish, he got up and went back to his room. When he returned, he carried several jewelry boxes.
"Yuèyuè, these are all for you."
He had originally intended to pass these jewels down to Mèng Jǐngtiān and Yuèyuè when they got married.
Now that the apocalypse had arrived, these items weren't edible or wearable. If they could help Yuèyuè, then that would be for the best.
Chǔ Xīyuè took the items and couldn't help but gently stroke them.
Her maternal grandmother had shown her several of these pieces before, saying they would be her dowry when she got married.
But three years ago, her maternal grandfather had passed away too suddenly. She hadn't taken a single item that was meant for her, moving out without a word.
Now, these items had found their way back to her.
Before putting the items into her space, Chǔ Xīyuè still sought Mèng Jǐngtiān's opinion.
Mèng Jǐngtiān wasn't interested in these feminine trinkets at all.
He didn't even have a girlfriend, so he wouldn't know who to give them to if he kept them.
Besides, with the apocalypse here, these things were no longer valuable.
Since Yuèyuè had a use for them now, he naturally had no qualms about letting her have them.
Although Chǔ Xīyuè knew this would be the outcome, she was still very touched.
In her past life, she didn't know why she had been so stubborn, insisting on severing ties with her uncle and cousin, which ultimately led to her uncle being framed and killed.
Fortunately, it wasn't too late.
They could start anew.
Chǔ Xīyuè took these boxes of gold, silver, and jade into her space again.
Then came another moment of witnessing a miracle!
All the jewelry began to decompose before her eyes at a visible speed.
Until they completely disappeared.
Suddenly, the entire space vibrated.
Then, Chǔ Xīyuè was expelled directly.
Chǔ Xīyuè wasn't alarmed by this; instead, a hint of joy welled up in her heart.
If her guess was correct, her space had probably leveled up.
