Spending the afternoon together successfully brought Harry, Ron, and Hermione closer. Even Ron started to admit that Hermione wasn't such a terrible person—a rare thing to hear from him, considering he used to describe her as a "nightmare."
However, Harry's doubts remained unresolved. After he asked his question, Hagrid simply sat quietly in the corner, looking at the lively chat of the four teenagers with a smile, occasionally deliberately avoiding Harry's gaze.
With a heart full of questions and a pocketful of Rock Cakes, Harry had to leave Hagrid's hut, returning to the castle with Hector and the others before dark.
