Chapter 14: Conflict in the Classroom
After saying that, Wunnuan turned around to look at Ji Feng.
This was her first time actively looking straight into Ji Feng's eyes like this. Her gaze was somewhat piercing, as if she were waiting for Ji Feng to answer.
Ji Feng did not rush to reply. Instead, he gazed back at Wunnuan and thought for a moment.
Wunnuan... could she be showing symptoms of depression?
"Do you want to die?"
"Mm." Wunnuan admitted it very directly.
Ji Feng didn't ask why. In his past life, she really had died; he just didn't know if he was the main reason.
So upon hearing this answer, he only fell silent for a few seconds:
"Sensitive people really can perceive everything in this world. The pity is that the only thing you failed to perceive is your own precious self."
"Precious? Me?"
Wunnuan retorted, but Ji Feng did not back down.
"Those who talk about wanting to die are merely bluffing, trying to make fate show mercy and let them off. Someone who truly wants to die is like a silent train, charging toward a mountain wall with no tunnel, without slowing down, destroying everything in a mutual blaze, smashing their life and the memories of their loved ones into flying ash."
Wunnuan opened her mouth.
She really wanted to know if the Ji Feng before her and that former hoodlum were truly the same person.
This wasn't the first time she had heard such words.
"Are you trying to persuade me?"
Wunnuan stared intently at Ji Feng, and Ji Feng didn't deny it:
"Yes. A person who genuinely wants to die no longer cares what people say. From my experience, someone who keeps talking about death doesn't actually want to die, but rather..."
"Rather what?"
"Rather, they are still craving love."
For a split second, a trace of light seemed to appear in Wunnuan's gaze, but it quickly went out.
She lowered her head, her voice growing increasingly cold:
"I never provoked anyone."
Ji Feng stood up, right at the edge of the rooftop railing, letting the night breeze gently caress his face and hair.
He laughed. Because once Wunnuan returned to this cold state, it meant she was getting better.
Once she was better, she wouldn't want to die anymore.
Yet Wunnuan didn't quite understand what he was laughing at.
Ji Feng suddenly grinned, revealing two rows of white teeth, his smile rather strange:
"You have no idea, there are some people in this world who are born scumbags; they feel miserable if they don't stir up trouble for a single day. Aside from looking human, the things these bastards do and say are basically no different from animals. They just see that you're weak and think you're easy to bully."
Wunnuan suddenly felt that a Ji Feng who spoke in this tone was the real one.
"Thank you, I feel much better."
"Dispelling a bad mood isn't a matter of a day or two. You can do more things you like, get closer to people you like, and you'll get better."
"Things I like, people I like..."
Seeing Wunnuan lost in thought, Ji Feng recalled the rumors between her and Yan Honghao from his past life.
Back then, everyone said she liked Yan Honghao.
Ji Feng wouldn't have been surprised if Wunnuan liked the guy; he was a good student, handsome, and came from a very wealthy family.
Yet in the end, Yan Honghao chose Gu Xueting, Wunnuan lost her mother, and her studies failed—and then she chose to commit suicide.
Ji Feng felt this girl had suffered far too much, and he ought to encourage her a little.
"If you like Yan Honghao, go after him bravely. Don't be afraid of anyone or anything."
Originally, after a round of comforting, Wunnuan had softened up quite a bit.
But upon hearing Ji Feng bring up Yan Honghao, Wunnuan suddenly stood up, looking at him with a gaze that was somewhat... angry?
"Psycho."
Dropping those words, Wunnuan walked away directly, leaving behind a bewildered Ji Feng standing in the wind.
"Did I say something wrong? Whatever, as long as she doesn't want to die."
Ji Feng rubbed his nose, grabbed the railing, and vaulted over.
Wunnuan hadn't gone with him to eat, so Ji Feng had no choice but to go to the cafeteria and buy two portions of fried noodles.
There was no help for it; if he didn't bring food back, Wunnuan would most likely end up gnawing on dry steamed bread.
Besides, this matter wasn't over yet.
...
Returning to the classroom, Wunnuan was already sitting in her seat.
Ji Feng just placed the fried noodles down.
"Not eating."
Ji Feng: "???"
Still angry?
What is there to be angry about?
What's even worth getting angry over?
Whatever, women have complicated minds; dealing with that scumbag first is what matters.
Ji Feng put down his own fried noodles and walked straight toward the class monitor Li Long's direction.
The atmosphere in the classroom suddenly turned somewhat strange. Ji Feng's footsteps drew the gazes of the entire class as he walked right up to Li Long.
"Ji Feng, you..."
Bang!
The surrounding students all dropped their jaws, witnessing with their own eyes the class monitor getting kicked in the face by Ji Feng.
Before his falling body could hit the ground completely, Li Long was already grabbed by the hair by Ji Feng.
"You motherf***er, you even dare to touch the person I'm protecting. Not only do you snitch like a total scumbag, but you also smear her with false accusations? You really aren't afraid of dying, are you?"
On Li Long's face was a clear footprint, looking as though it had been stamped on by a printer.
Following that, Ji Feng delivered another kick to Li Long's thigh.
That fellow let out a miserable scream and collapsed onto the floor, starting to cry and groan at the same time.
The students sitting by the door already had the thought of going to call a teacher, but after being glared at by Ji Feng, they honestly sat back down to read their books.
Ji Feng's dedicated studying during this period had made many people forget what he used to be like.
School bullies from earlier years were just like this; almost every school had them.
The class monitor Li Long had actually been naive enough to think Ji Feng would play by the rules, while forgetting that he himself hadn't truly followed school rules either.
Fabricated snitching, slander—he had almost driven Wunnuan to her death.
Under Li Long's terrified gaze, Ji Feng squatted down beside him.
"Don't mess with her. Remember that?"
Seeing Li Long nod, Ji Feng said no more and stood up to return to his seat.
Li Long silently crawled up from the floor, and when he looked at Ji Feng again, he didn't even dare to display any feelings of resentment.
The atmosphere in the classroom remained oppressive.
The sense of oppression Ji Feng gave off was extremely intense, as if his studying lately had made him even more terrifying than before.
The old Ji Feng was just a hoodlum.
The current Ji Feng... they no longer had a way to accurately describe him with words.
The silent, oppressive atmosphere was shattered by a burst of footsteps.
Head teacher Huang Jihai suddenly appeared at the classroom door.
Old Huang also found it strange; shouldn't a classroom at this time of day be very noisy?
Why was no one speaking?
He looked toward the class monitor Li Long and beckoned to him:
"Li Long, come with me to the office for a moment."
"Uh, okay."
Li Long replied, and Old Huang immediately noticed something was wrong:
"Li Long, what happened to your face?"
Li Long looked at Huang Jihai, a sudden urge welling up in his heart to viciously tell on Ji Feng, have Huang Jihai heavily punish him, give him a disciplinary reprimand, and note a major demerit on his record.
Yet a gust of cold wind blowing in through the unclosed window instantly extinguished this thought.
What meaning did a disciplinary reprimand have for someone like Ji Feng?
None.
After snitching on him, would Ji Feng retaliate against him?
Definitely.
He was about to take the college entrance examination; this was the most important moment in his life.
He couldn't break down here...
"Nothing, nothing, Teacher Huang. I just accidentally fell down earlier."
Huang Jihai walked over and took a look at him. The footprint on his face had already turned red and swollen by now; it was blatantly obvious that someone had beaten him.
"You're sure you fell?"
Li Long cast a stealthy glance at Ji Feng, but Ji Feng didn't turn his head at all.
"I really just fell."
Feeling something was amiss, Huang Jihai turned his gaze to the others:
"Come on, which of you will tell me how Li Long got his face like that?"
