Li Wei's brainless remarks online completely infuriated netizens.
Cheng Xin watched Li Wei's self-destructive behavior with a cold sneer at the corner of his mouth.
This kid was simply digging his own grave.
Without any hesitation, he screensaved Li Wei's posts.
"Kid, this will be your death warrant from now on."
Three days later, the entrance of the Xinhe police station was once again packed tight with reporters.
Flashbulbs flickered continuously.
In the crowd, Zhang Strong gripped his fists tightly, his eye sockets red and brimming with a glimmer of hope.
Under public pressure, the authorities had reopened his wife's case.
Meanwhile, Cheng Xin and Su Mu stood outside the crowd with calm expressions.
They knew this was only the first step.
"Next, it all depends on how the Li family reacts."
Cheng Xin said in a low voice, his gaze as sharp as a falcon's.
Su Mu nodded slightly. Suddenly seeming to remember something, she opened her bag, took out a stack of documents, and handed them to Cheng Xin.
"These are the records of the Li family's business activities over the past few years that I collected during this time."
"Perhaps we can find some clues in them."
"Though they might not play a crucial, deciding role in this particular case."
"At the very least, it should be enough to make them sick to their stomachs."
Cheng Xin took the documents from Su Mu, his fingertips gently brushing against the paper.
Feeling the texture of the paper, his gaze fell upon Su Mu's face.
Her makeup today was very light, yet it still could not conceal the heroic spirit between her brows.
The sunlight filtering through the nearby foliage fell upon her face, adding a touch of gentleness.
Looking at Su Mu's gentle, smiling face, Cheng Xin could not help but smile softly.
With such a kindred spirit and good friend by his side, he truly had nothing left to fear!
"Thanks, gorgeous Su."
Cheng Xin joked, a relaxed smile dancing in the corners of his eyes and brows.
Hearing his words, Su Mu rolled her dark, beautiful eyes and gave him a sideways glance.
"Stop running your mouth and hurry up and see if there's anything useful."
The two exchanged a smile, then walked side by side back to the law firm.
They began organizing the materials on hand, preparing for the upcoming trial.
Cheng Xin cross-referenced the documents Su Mu brought with the evidence he already had, trying to find a connection between them.
Su Mu assisted him from the side, occasionally offering her own views and suggestions.
On the other side, upon learning the news that the police had reopened the case of Zhang Strong's wife, Li Quan—whose mood had already been poor over the last two days—flew into a rage.
He fiercely hurled the teacup in his hand to the ground, sending porcelain shards scattering everywhere.
"Damn it! A bunch of trash! They can't even handle a small matter like this!"
He knew that if the case was reinvestigated, Li Wei's crimes would likely be exposed.
The reason the previous case had been ruled a suicide was not because of insufficient evidence!
Rather, he had pulled strings and suppressed all evidence unfavorable to Li Wei.
Now, with Cheng Xin, a stubborn and thorny lawyer, meddling in the affair, things had become troublesome.
He immediately contacted Li Wei, warning him in a stern tone.
"You brat, behave yourself! Stop causing trouble for me lately! Did you hear me?"
Li Wei was carousing with a group of fair-weather friends. Hearing his father's roar, he impatiently brushed him off.
"Got it, got it, so annoying!"
He didn't take his father's words to heart at all and continued to act as he pleased.
Li Quan began pulling strings again, attempting to block the police investigation.
He even contacted Zhang Strong once more, hinting that a large sum of money could settle the matter.
The figure he quoted was enough to keep an ordinary person worry-free for a lifetime.
Yet Zhang Strong refused without the slightest hesitation.
"Li Quan, do you think everyone is like you, willing to sell their conscience for money?"
"Let me tell you, I am going to get justice for my wife no matter what!"
Li Quan was rebuffed and felt even more irritated inside.
However, he did not give up, continuing to pull strings in secret in an attempt to turn the tables.
Meanwhile, Li Wei remained immersed in his hedonistic lifestyle, turning a deaf ear to the online public opinion and his father's warnings.
He even went a step further, posting provocative remarks on social media to mock Zhang Strong.
He even publicly tagged Cheng Xin and Su Mu, his language extremely arrogant.
"A bunch of clowns trying to fight me? You're still too green!"
Li Wei drunkenly tapped out these words, then smugly tossed his phone aside to continue carousing with his fair-weather friends.
Every single one of these remarks was recorded word for word by Cheng Xin and Su Mu.
They would serve as powerful evidence for accusing Li Wei later on.
Cheng Xin and Su Mu did not lower their guard because of Li Wei's arrogance.
They knew the Li family's roots ran deep in Xinhe, and taking them down would be no easy task.
Yet Cheng Xin had not given up.
After all, he refused to believe it.
Were all the people around Li Wei fiercely loyal, or did they all have dirt held over them by the Li family?
There had to be human witnesses!
Throwing the documents in his hand onto the desk, Cheng Xin rubbed his temples.
After staying up late for several days running, even with the recent enhancement from his system, he was still feeling the strain.
The progress of the case was much more difficult than imagined.
The Li family's influence was intertwined throughout Xinhe like a murky quagmire, making it hard to find purchase.
The materials he had gathered during this period had also started from Li Wei's fair-weather friends, hoping to find a breakthrough.
Yet looking at it now, that proved rather difficult as well.
After all, anyone capable of hanging out with a scumbag like Li Wei either had dirt on them held by him, or was just as rotten to the same degree.
Under these circumstances, continuing the investigation would be extremely tough.
Just as he was feeling a headache coming on, Su Mu pushed the door open in a flurry, an undisguised excitement on her face.
"Cheng Xin, I've got good news!"
Without wasting words, Su Mu walked straight up to Cheng Xin and waved the file bag in her hand.
"A journalist friend of mine sneaked into the Li Group to investigate."
"They found that there have been massive flows of unaccounted-for funds in recent years, and all the evidence is right here!"
Cheng Xin took the file bag and quickly flipped through it. The contents inside gave his spirits a boost.
Dense rows of transaction records and intricately complex fund flows
all pointed to a single truth.
The Li Group had already been pulling all sorts of strings behind the scenes!
And these materials were things he could use later on!
Thinking of this, he could not help but give Su Mu a thumbs-up.
"Great job!"
"Your friend is fierce—risking life itself for the truth!"
Su Mu proudly arched an eyebrow, placing her hands on her hips, which lent her a rather lively air.
"Well of course, look whose friend she is!"
"This is an exclusive scoop; it's enough for them to brag about for a lifetime!"
Cheng Xin pondered for a moment, a flash of inspiration suddenly striking his mind.
"Wait, it just hit me."
"Were our previous trains of thought wrong?"
Hearing this, the smile on Su Mu's face faded as she looked at him in confusion.
"What do you mean?"
