Feng Qingqing smiled back, grateful for the gesture. After exchanging a few final words, she returned to her room. She tidied up briefly before heading back out of the guesthouse. She couldn’t rely entirely on Fang Xiaohong for housing; she needed to canvass the various alleys herself. Classes would begin tomorrow, leaving her no time to search once the term started. Leaving the guesthouse, she didn't head straight to Liyu Alley. Instead, she started with an adjacent one. It was a long alley, clearly densely populated. Beyond the first few rows of tenement buildings, the rest consisted of courtyards of varying sizes. Feng Qingqing knew that those who were well-off lived in their own private courtyards, while those less fortunate shared a single space with many other households—a chaotic environment with a complex mix of residents. It was just past one in the afternoon, and many of the elderly were sitting out in the sun. Feng Qingqing asked several people, but they all shook their heads regarding rentals. Some had no idea if anyone was renting, while others were certain there were no vacancies in their alley. Her heart sank; it seemed finding a place would be quite a challenge.
