University military training resumed last year. This policy was a key measure adopted after the Reform and Opening-up to strengthen national defense education and cultivate discipline among the youth.
Under normal circumstances, since this year was still early in the program’s revival, most universities were not strictly enforcing it, opting for short-term intensive sessions. However, Jing University, being a top-tier institution in the country, was extremely rigorous when it came to military training. A few years down the line, Jing University and other elite schools like Fudan would even struggle with admissions because the training sessions lasted too long, causing many high-scoring students to avoid applying there altogether.
This year’s Jing University military training was no different from basic recruit training. Students had to stand at attention and practice marching for over ten hours a day. If a student’s performance wasn’t up to standard, instructors would force them to undergo remedial training in the middle of the night. More than a few students were trained to the point of tears.
