Chapter 14: Confusion Before Rebirth
Li Feng's consciousness was pulled by an invisible force, dragging him away from a chaotic world. His vision suddenly cleared, as if he had stepped through a Gate of Time and returned to a familiar environment.
He stood upon a wide expanse of fields, with rolling mountains in the distance under a bright blue sky and warm sunshine. A gentle breeze swept past, carrying the earthy fragrance of soil and fresh grass. Everything felt so real, so wonderful.
Yet, Li Feng's heart was filled with confusion and bewilderment. He did not know why he had experienced Rebirth, nor who he was supposed to be in this time and space. He tried to recall things from the past, only to find his mind entirely blank, with only a few scattered fragments flickering within.
He remembered once having a happy family, with loving parents and a gentle wife. Together, they ran a small restaurant; although life was not wealthy, it was filled with laughter. Yet these memories seemed distant, as if they had happened to someone else.
Li Feng looked around, trying to find some trace of familiarity. He noticed a familiar bridge not far away—the place where he and his wife had first met. He decided to go take a look, hoping to find some clues there.
He walked along the country path, stepping closer to the bridge with every stride. But when he reached the head of the bridge, he found that everything had changed. The old bridge had been demolished, replaced by a modern overpass. This was no longer the place he once knew.
Li Feng's confusion deepened. He began to doubt whether he had truly traveled back to the past. He recalled a science fiction movie he had once watched, about a scientist who traveled through time and space only to find that his existence had altered history, turning reality unrecognizably distorted.
Panic and helplessness surged into his heart, and Li Feng could not help but bury his head in his hands and weep. He did not know what to do, how to find his true self, or how to reclaim those lost memories.
Just as he fell into despair, a voice suddenly sounded in his ear: "Li Feng, wake up!"
Li Feng raised his head and saw a familiar figure standing before him. It was his wife, her eyes filled with concern and anxiety.
"Wife?" Li Feng looked at her in bewilderment. "Do you know me?"
His wife wept as she spoke, "Feng, you've been unconscious for days. The doctor said you might have suffered a severe shock that affected your mind. I know you've always been lost, but I just want you to wake up and help us get our happiness back."
Li Feng froze. So, all of this had been a dream. He had returned to his former life, only to find that he had lost everything he once had.
He felt an endless sorrow and helplessness. He knew he had to face reality and strive to find that once-happy version of himself.
Li Feng tightly embraced his wife, his tears falling onto her shoulder. He resolved that from this moment on, he would cherish every single present moment, work hard to recover those lost memories, and find his former self once again.
He knew this would be a long and arduous journey, but he believed that as long as he did not give up, one day he would find his own happiness.
Li Feng opened his eyes and looked into his wife's concerned gaze, his heart overflowing with gratitude. He knew he had found his direction forward.
From that moment on, Li Feng began his journey of searching. Accompanied by his wife, he traveled to all the places they had once visited, trying to awaken those lost memories.
Throughout this process, they encountered many difficulties and challenges, but Li Feng never gave up. He firmly believed that as long as he persevered, the day would eventually come when he would find his own happiness.
And that day might be just around the corner.
