Li Geng returned home and gave his mother, Meng Jiaying, a detailed account of what had happened. He was filled with curiosity, desperate to know what secret lay between his mother and Liu Ye'er. Although Meng Jiaying insisted repeatedly that she had no connection to Liu Ye'er, the look in Li Geng’s eyes revealed his distrust. He pressed her further, "Mom, what on earth did you do to Ye'er?" A flash of annoyance crossed Meng Jiaying’s face, and she replied firmly, "Geng'er, I really don't know her! Stop asking!" Li Geng knew his mother’s personality well. She had always held prejudices against ordinary people and had inadvertently offended countless individuals. While he was convinced she didn't know Liu Ye'er personally, he couldn't rule out the possibility that she had offended her in some casual encounter. Adopting a calm tone, he advised, "Mother, I truly hope you can adjust your temper. A moment of impulse often causes lasting pain for others." Hearing this, Meng Jiaying remained displeased, but her tone softened slightly. She suggested, "Perhaps we should go find her ourselves and get to the bottom of how I supposedly offended her." Li Geng felt this was a viable solution and nodded in agreement.
