The next morning, after breakfast, Nan Yu took Lü Wei to let the Lynx smell her scent. He explained to the Lynx that Lü Wei was now part of the family and would be helping to look after it.
Lü Wei was quite bold; as soon as the Lynx had finished sniffing her, she began to pet it. She rubbed the Lynx all over, and once she had her fill, she went to check on the cubs. She was mindful of her limits, however, and didn't reach out to pick them up. The two little tiger cubs growled at her, baring their teeth. With Nan Yu’s permission, Lü Wei reached out to them as well, petting them until the two little cubs lost their tempers and quieted down.
Nan Yu then taught Lü Wei how to mix milk powder for the cubs, how many times a day they needed to be fed, and how much formula to prepare each time. Although the Lynx had brought the cubs back with the intention of nursing them herself, Nan Yu felt sorry for her. He was worried that if the two tiger cubs drained the Lynx of all her milk, the three lynx cubs would have nothing to drink. That was why he had started feeding the tiger cubs formula every day.
