The Silver Fox dashed onto the table with a whoosh. The young novice lunged for it, teeth gritted, but managed to snag only a tuft of silver hair from the tip of its tail. "Pa… Patron, this is a place of Buddhist purity—" The pilgrims couldn't help but chuckle; the little monk was actually addressing a silver fox as "Patron." The novice, face crumpled in misery, lay sprawled in a heap of incense ash. As he looked up, he saw the silver fox’s thick tail swipe across the table, sending the offerings of fruit and wine cascading to the floor.
