The late autumn rain, laden with a chill, seeped down to the bone. Su Tang stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, clutching a cup of warm ginger tea as she watched Gu Chenzhou's black Maybach vanish into the rainy curtain. On the coffee table sat the coffee cup he had used, its rim bearing a faint smudge of magenta lipstick—a shade different from the one she usually wore. This was already the seventh late-night parting this month. At two in the morning in the entryway, Gu Chenzhou, carrying the scent of an unfamiliar perfume, leaned down to kiss the crown of her head. "I have a project to rush tonight, darling, go to sleep." Su Tang always nodded submissively, handed him his neatly pressed suit jacket, and watched his back disappear into the elevator bay. Only after the sound of his footsteps had completely faded would she squat down and weep silently into the empty hallway. They had met three years ago at an advertising pitch meeting. Gu Chenzhou, serving as the client representative, sat at the far end of the meeting room, the gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses as cold and sharp as a knife as he tore the agency's proposal to shreds. After the meeting adjourned, Su Tang hugged the rejected proposal and wiped away tears in the pantry, only to bump into Gu Chenzhou leaning against the doorframe with a slight smile. "What are you crying for? Fix the proposal and come back tomorrow."
