The late autumn rain slanted against the café window. Lin Kexing watched the wisps of steam rising from her cup, while Bai Muyu lowered his gaze, stirring his coffee, his figure flickering indistinctly through the gathering mist. The wooden table and chairs had long been worn to a smooth, lustrous patina by the passing years, yet they could no longer hold the weight of her increasingly turbulent thoughts.
"Muyu, my parents are coming from my hometown next week," Lin Kexing began cautiously, her fingernails scraping unconsciously against the rim of the cup. "They want to meet you."
Bai Muyu's stirring motion abruptly halted, the porcelain spoon clinking sharply against the side of the cup. His Adam's apple bobbed twice, but his gaze remained fixed on the traffic rushing past in the rain outside. "I've been too busy with projects lately."
