Chapter 12

My head is spinning, and my heart hurts so much.
She only remembered falling, and seemed to have passed out from the pain.
Yuxuan instinctively touched her chest, only to find that the Goddess Amulet stabbed into her body was gone!
Where was the amulet? Surely it wasn't actually swallowed; if it had pierced her heart, why was she completely fine?
Well, that was fine too... At least when wearing clothes, she wouldn't feel awkward from the amulet bulging out.
Yuxuan gave a bitter smile, trying to relax.
She slowly opened her eyes, pushed herself up with effort, and sat up.
By this time, it was already early morning. The sky was gradually clearing up, the rain had stopped, and sunlight spilled into the room through the open window, bringing a hint of warmth and brightness.
A gentle breeze swept by, rustling the leaves, and the crystal-clear water droplets hanging on them sparkled with a charming glow in the morning light.
Yuxuan looked around, taking in the unfamiliar room. The structure was extremely simple, one could even call it crude to the extreme.
The four walls were built from rough stones and covered with a thin layer of mud. Although lacking modern decorations, it exuded a rustic and primitive aesthetic. The floor was made of hard concrete, which would definitely feel ice-cold against bare feet.
A few salted fish and sausages hung from the window; this unique decorative style had a rather rural flair, reminding one of simple village life.
It looked like she had been saved!
Yuxuan thought to herself that perhaps the girl beside her had been taking care of her all this time.
She saw that the girl was quietly resting her head by the bedside, a cascade of long brown hair draped beside her. She was already fast asleep, her breathing steady and faint, like a quiet little kitten.
That was good. Waking up from unconsciousness with no monsters like Goblins around was the best possible outcome.
Yuxuan tentatively stretched her arms, finding that her body felt much better than before, and her filthy clothes had been replaced with clean, neat new ones.
Wait... does that mean this girl saw everything while she was unconscious?
Just then, the girl resting by the bedside seemed to sense Yuxuan's gaze and slowly woke up.
Her brown eyes looked at Yuxuan, filled with a hint of concern: "You're finally awake. How are you feeling?"
Before Yuxuan could answer, the girl hurriedly stood up, walked over to the table to pick up a pill, and soon came back carrying a bowl of steaming medicine.
"My name is Ina. I saw you fall on the road yesterday and carried you back. Here, drink your medicine first."
Seeing the girl pause slightly, Ina blew on it and took a small sip.
"It's just regular health tonic, and it's even a little sweet. Open up."
Actually, Yuxuan's focus wasn't on that. In other words, she had fallen, been drenched in the rain for quite a while, yet now she was completely fine—wasn't this recovery speed a bit too fast?
This medicine tasted a bit like cold medicine.
Seeing the girl pick up the bowl and drink it down, Ina finally let out a sigh of relief.
"What's your name?"
A name?
Yuxuan hadn't thought about this question yet. Taken by surprise, she didn't know what to say.
Her own name was pretty much useless in another world.
"Theresia."
Yuxuan remembered that Left Brain and Right Brain had vaguely called her by that name. Besides, the Demon King was already dead anyway; surely humans wouldn't know what monsters called each other.
The girl named Ina before her had her long brown hair tied back loosely into a few thin braids, a few freckles on her face, and a healthy, yellowish complexion.
Hearing this, Ina crossed her arms, tilted her head slightly, and furrowed her pretty brow.
The two girls stared at each other, their eyes filled with confusion and curiosity. They tilted their heads in unison, gazing intently at each other, trying to find an answer in the other's expression.
What was going on here? Why did this happen? Was there something special about this name?
"Um, what is going on here?"
Theresia finally couldn't help asking Ina. She simply couldn't understand why the other person was so hung up on her name.
After all, if they just wanted to communicate, standing in a stalemate like this clearly wasn't a good idea.
Ina seemed to understand Theresia's confusion. She stood up, walked to the nearby table, picked up a pen and a piece of paper, and handed them to Theresia.
This gesture made Theresia even more puzzled, but she took the pen and paper.
What did this mean? Could it be that Ina didn't understand what she was saying?
Filled with doubts, Theresia neatly wrote her full name on the paper and handed the note back to Ina.
She stared closely at Ina's every move, expecting the other to provide a reasonable explanation.
However, when Ina took the note, she didn't speak immediately. Instead, she looked at it over and over again, as if struggling to make out the handwriting.
Was her handwriting really that hard to recognize?
She clearly remembered practicing calligraphy deliberately in her past life!
"Uh... I can vaguely make out that your name is Theresia?"
After a moment, Ina finally spoke, though her tone betrayed a hint of uncertainty.
Was her handwriting really that illegible?
Perhaps it was because the writing system in this world was different from her past life, which made it a bit difficult for Ina to read.
"Well, Little Theresia, this question might be a bit intrusive, but could you please answer it?"
Theresia couldn't help growing nervous. Could her name be guessed just like that? Was it a taboo name? She had been too careless.
"Do you have a congenital speech disorder, or did you lose your language function after waking up?"
Huh? Lose her language function? Wasn't that just another way of saying mute? Theresia was shocked, her mouth wide open. Had she become unable to speak just from running a fever?
Seeing the look of astonishment on Theresia's face, Ina figured out the answer.
"Let's have Doctor Max take a look when there's time. But Little Theresia, you should prepare yourself—this might not be curable."
Ina thought for a moment and continued.
"What you just said sounded to me like... a baby babbling?"
Hearing Ina's words, Theresia felt as if she had been struck by a bolt from the blue.
Had she really become mute?
The expression on Theresia's face instantly plummeted at a visible rate.
For a moment, Ina didn't know how to comfort her.
"Well, Little Theresia, let's go take a bath first. Yesterday I only wiped you down; today we'll give you a proper wash. Look at that pretty face of yours—who knows how gorgeous you'll be once you're all cleaned up."
