Chapter 9

1,237 words6 minutes read

A breath carrying electrical current blasted Yuxuan right in the face. Her face already felt miserable enough in the rain, and now it felt sticky and tingly.
"Hello there?"
Yuxuan had fallen to the ground, so she simply stayed down. She found a massive head directly facing her, with a pair of huge eyes blinking at her.
If she turned and bolted right now, wouldn't that be a bit impolite...
So, Yuxuan stealthily stretched out her left hand, preparing to launch a Small Light Orb.
This guy looked so strong, would that even work?
Should she try the Black Hand instead? She concentrated, trying to release the Black Hand.
Sure enough, a wisp of black Qi emerged from behind him, gradually forming a tentacle-like creature.
Yet the moment the Black Hand reached out, took a look at the current situation, it actually shrank back silently.
Hey! What are you doing? Do you even have self-awareness?
Just then, the sky suddenly darkened. Yuxuan looked up to see dark clouds gathering thickly overhead, accompanied by a buzzing sound.
"No way! Are they going to strike me with lightning?!" Yuxuan was too terrified to move.
She suddenly remembered that if you encounter a tiger in the wild, the best method is to remain calm, and then quietly leave at top speed.
She wondered if this method would work just as well in this otherworld?
Yuxuan decided to take a gamble.
The Saber-toothed Tiger saw the human before it; its movements became exceptionally slow, as if time itself had frozen, and it slowly began to retreat.
At the same time, a blinding flash of lightning tore across the sky, striking straight at the spot where Yuxuan stood.
Yuxuan didn't hesitate for a second to turn and run. She used every ounce of her strength, sprinting desperately forward, hoping to escape this terrifying lightning zone.
Yet that bolt of lightning was like a relentless ghost demanding her life, closely tailing her and striking down repeatedly behind her.
It was definitely playing with her!
Otherwise, if it wanted to catch her, it would have pounced long ago!
The lightning stopped striking.
Yuxuan looked back to see the Saber-toothed Tiger licking its paws. Then someone looked toward it again, and summoned the next round of lightning.
What kind of wicked sense of humor was this?
Then she saw the Saber-toothed Tiger open its blood-red maw, revealing sharp fangs.
Yuxuan's heart skipped a beat. Without hesitation, she flicked out a few glowing Small Light Orbs, which accurately shot right into the Saber-toothed Tiger's mouth.
Unexpectedly, one of the orbs happened to hit the Saber-toothed Tiger's throat, and it immediately let out a painful retch.
"Roar!"
Accompanied by an angry roar, the Saber-toothed Tiger began gagging while violently shaking its body, its fur crackling with sparks of lightning.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!"
Amidst her frantic apologies, rainwater streamed down her cheeks—she couldn't tell if it was rain or tears.
She knew she had already angered it.
The Saber-toothed Tiger's eyes gradually turned red. Seemingly sensing Yuxuan's fear, it slowly steadied its body and struck an attack posture.
Yuxuan hurriedly reached out with a Black Hand to hook onto a branch ahead. Fearing she wouldn't get a secure grip in the rain, she sent out several more Black Hands to help steady herself.
She felt rather like an octopus...
What was it doing? She couldn't quite figure out what this Saber-toothed Tiger was after, but not being eaten was the best possible outcome.
The storm was pouring like a waterfall, gale-force winds sweeping through the forest as trees swayed in the wind, as if they could be uprooted at any moment. Lightning slashed across the sky like the wrath of a god, illuminating the dark forest.
Every rumble of thunder was accompanied by a deafening crash, making the earth itself seem to tremble. Rain poured down, drumming a noisy rat-a-tat against the leaves like countless pearls scattering on the ground.
Rainwater relentlessly lashed against Yuxuan's frail frame, the biting chill constantly gnawing at her body and making her shiver uncontrollably.
That streak of lightning tearing through the night sky looked like a ferocious beast, striking fear into the heart.
The rain was falling so, so hard... Was the direction she was heading right or wrong? If it was wrong and she stumbled into some unknown territory, that would be disastrous.
"Crack!"
With a deafening explosion, a blinding bolt of lightning plunged from the sky, striking squarely into the tree Yuxuan was clinging to with her Black Hands.
Yuxuan watched with her own eyes as that massive tree was instantly scorched to charcoal, wisps of black smoke slowly rising from it.
Uh, this surely had nothing to do with her, right?
That hateful Saber-toothed Tiger didn't seem inclined to let her off easily.
Immediately following, a dense barrage of lightning bolts hammered down toward Yuxuan like raindrops, leaving her nowhere to hide. With no other choice, she was forced to change her route.
"Hey, you're obviously settling a personal score here! It was just a tiny little attack on you earlier, it didn't even cause much damage!"
Yuxuan ran wretchedly through the rain while angrily shouting up at the sky.
Her only response was the growing fury of the thunder and raindrops the size of beans.
"Roar..."
The low growl made one's hair stand on end in this howling storm.
Yuxuan couldn't help tightening up. Had she accidentally provoked some other formidable character again?
Right at that moment, the bushes ahead violently thrashed, as if some massive object was about to burst out.
Immediately afterward, pairs of faint blue glowing eyes flickered in and out of view within the brush.
Oh no!
Before Yuxuan could even react, a pack of fierce wolves lunged out from the bushes, baring their claws and sharp fangs, exuding a terrifying aura.
Suddenly, a dazzling flash of lightning streaked across the sky. As if by the cruel hand of fate, it struck precisely right into the middle of the wolf pack.
This bolt of lightning was like a sharp sword, instantly scattering the massive wolf pack. Wolf fur flew everywhere, and the pack plunged into chaos.
Seeing this, Yuxuan didn't hesitate to hurl a white light orb from her hand.
The light orb burst into dazzling brilliance among the wolves, its intense glare outshining the entire forest as the pack descended into confusion once more.
Not daring to delay for even a moment, Yuxuan rapidly turned, stretched her legs, and ran with all her might.
Time ticked by. After running frantically for a distance, Yuxuan gradually felt her stamina failing.
Fortunately, the wolf pack didn't seem to be giving chase, and that bizarre lightning no longer pursued her relentlessly.
The nerves that had been tightly strung inside Yuxuan finally relaxed, and she let out a long sigh.
Whew... It's finally over.
Yet, where in the world was this?
First being struck by lightning, then being chased by wolves.
She had lost her bearings long ago.
Yuxuan looked around. There was a large mountain ahead, where the outlines of some houses could be vaguely seen.
There might be a village on that mountain where she could take shelter; she should climb to the summit first to check out the situation.
After all, this rain was only getting heavier. If she stayed put, goodness knows what state she'd be soaked into.
