Chapter 9

1,548 words8 minutes read

According to the original plot, after Shangguan Yurou sprained her ankle, Nangong Ye would send nutritional supplements to the bottom of the girls' dormitory building every day, and Shangguan Yurou's roommates would help take them up to her. Even though the hero and heroine could not meet face-to-face, their feelings would continuously grow stronger.
However, the people who had sprained their ankles were now Nangong Ye and Han Juyou, so this plot naturally evaporated. After all, Liu Muye had no way of ordering Shangguan Yurou to come to the boys' dormitory building to deliver supplements to Nangong Ye.
What was more, Shangguan Yurou was still concealing her true identity and could not expose herself as a little heiress; wouldn't buying expensive supplements blow her cover?
That being said, thanks to Han Juyou, Shangguan Yurou was taking care of her in the girls' dormitory and therefore didn't have to go to military training.
As for Liu Muye, his family owned the school, so if he didn't want to attend military training, the instructors wouldn't dare say a word to him.
To Liu Muye's surprise, he and Nangong Ye had actually been assigned to the same double suite.
According to the settings Liu Muye had written into his book, the dormitories at Silia Business School were divided into two types.
One was a double suite qualified only for students who paid hundreds of thousands of yuan in tuition per year. Each suite had two independent bedrooms, plus a shared living room and bathroom. These suites were built exclusively for the wealthy.
The other type was standard dormitories for regular college students. These were normal college rooms for four people, featuring bunk beds with desks underneath, costing only twelve hundred yuan a year in accommodation fees.
If Liu Muye remembered correctly, to make it convenient for the hero and heroine to cohabit at school later in the story, he had set his double suite to be co-ed, allowing men and women to live together.
As for the regular dormitories, they were strictly separated into male and female buildings.
Hiding her identity at the start, Shangguan Yurou had paid standard tuition, so naturally, she lived in a regular four-person room and happened to be roommates with Han Juyou.
In the book, Nangong Ye had lived alone in a double suite during the early chapters, but now, because of Liu Muye transmigrating into the story, the two of them had ended up as roommates.
Liu Muye, exempt from military training, slept blissfully until past noon. Stepping out into the living room, he saw Nangong Ye sitting up straight, holding an iPad and conducting a meeting.
Too lazy to bother with him, Liu Muye sprawled out on the sofa, ordered takeout, and began catching up on the serial novel of his favorite author.
Because it was written one-to-one based on the real world, the novels in this world were no different from the ones in Liu Muye's original world—except that he couldn't search for the books he had written himself.
Well, of course; if his own books existed in this world, wouldn't that mean a bug had occurred?
Liu Muye finished the latest updated chapters, and Nangong Ye was still in his meeting.
Liu Muye's takeout arrived, and Nangong Ye started a brand new meeting.
By the time Liu Muye had almost finished eating his takeout, Nangong Ye finally closed his iPad.
Gnawing on a chicken drumstick, Liu Muye looked at him and said, "Yo, meeting over?"
"Not yet," Nangong Ye pursed his lips and said, "you eating right beside me distracts me from my meeting."
Chewing his food, Liu Muye asked, "What, can your iPad transmit smells across the screen?"
"…I'm hungry!"
Nangong Ye rolled his eyes at Liu Muye in speechlessness.
"Want a bite then?" Liu Muye said, grabbing another untouched chicken drumstick. "I'll bear the pain and share one with you."
"I don't eat that," Nangong Ye shook his head and said. "I have a stomach condition. My stomach absolutely refuses to allow such cheap food to enter. If I ate this kind of inferior food, I would get sick."
The classic CEO setting—loving to get stomach ulcers.
As he spoke, Nangong Ye raised his wrist to glance at his eight-million-yuan Vacheron Constantin watch encrusted with genuine diamonds, and continued, "The time is just about right. The meal made by the family's five-star chef should be arriving soon."
"..." Liu Muye went black in the eyes and snapped ungraciously, "Who's spoiling you? Eat it if you want, leave it if you don't."
With that, Liu Muye shoved the entire remaining chicken drumstick into his mouth in one go. In just a single bite, the drumstick was reduced to bare bones—a special skill Liu Muye had honed in high school. To squeeze every single second out of study time, he had compressed his eating speed to the absolute limit.
"!?"
Looking at the polished chicken bone, Nangong Ye asked in astonishment, "Why do you eat so fast?"
"I'd eat even faster if I weren't talking to you."
Finished speaking, Liu Muye picked up his lunchbox, shoveled the food down rapidly, and ate with tremendous relish.
Nangong Ye's mouth was watering just watching him, but he held back. His CEO status prevented him from lowering his dignity to eat in such a crude manner.
Just as Liu Muye was finishing his meal, the meal prepared by the five-star chef from Nangong Ye's family finally arrived.
A velvet tablecloth was spread across the table, complete with red wine, steak, salad, aromatherapy candles, and a row of knives and forks neatly arranged from largest to smallest.
Nangong Ye tucked a napkin into his collar, and with absolute poise, began cutting the steak and feeding it to his mouth, while two servants stood behind him standing by at attention.
Watching this way of eating and the pitifully small amount of food on the plate, Liu Muye asked curiously, "Do you eat stuff like this every day?"
"That's right," Nangong Ye nodded.
Liu Muye couldn't help muttering a complaint: "With so many things to deal with every day and eating this little, it's a wonder you don't get a stomach ulcer."
Nangong Ye put down his knife and fork and said, "I have eaten this way since I can remember. Raised as an heir since childhood, my words and actions have been strictly disciplined—eating and working are both like this. Furthermore, having managed family affairs since I was fourteen, every day of my life is filled with endless meetings and unending work."
Nangong Ye's words left Liu Muye momentarily dazed. The persona of the domineering CEO was something he himself had set up.
In the book, Nangong Ye had to eat Western food; he had to wear crisp, handsome suits; whether standing, sitting, or even sleeping, he had to maintain a CEO posture; he had to act like a CEO with endless things to do and infinite meetings to attend every day.
Weren't these exact settings things that he had bestowed upon Nangong Ye?
How was it that, in the end, he was the one blaming Nangong Ye?
Liu Muye suddenly felt like those hyper-demanding tiger parents from his past reality whom he hated the most—the ones who forced everything they themselves couldn't endure onto their children without the slightest idea of what the children actually liked.
Liu Muye asked Nangong Ye, "Then do you think living like this is... happy?"
"Happy?" Nangong Ye shook his head and retorted, "What is happiness?"
"Huh? You don't know what happiness is?" Liu Muye was stunned for a moment, then explained, "It's... things that make you feel joyful."
"Joyful..."
Hearing Liu Muye's words, the figure of Shangguan Yurou suddenly floated into Nangong Ye's mind.
He couldn't help letting out a chuckle.
Wearing an expression that said he knew everything, Liu Muye declared, "You've fallen for Shangguan Yurou, haven't you?"
Nangong Ye instantly grew nervous: "Impossible, absolutely impossible! How could I possibly fall in love with a woman I've only met once!"
"What are you getting nervous for?"
"I am not!"
"You're done for. You've fallen head over heels."
"I repeat once more, it is impossible for me to fall in love with a woman I've only met once!"
...
"Could it be that you've fallen for that man you met yesterday and only saw once?" Inside the girls' dormitory, Han Juyou looked at Shangguan Yurou, who was so distracted she had dropped and shattered a glass cup, and asked this question.
"Ah! N-No... How could that be?" Shangguan Yurou waved her hands in a panic and said, "How could I possibly fall in love with a man I've only met once?"
Han Juyou asked with a smile at the corner of her lips, "What were you two doing in the hospital room yesterday?"
"We didn't do anything!" Shangguan Yurou shook her head and said, "We just chatted for a bit, and then you opened the door for us..."
Han Juyou pressed further, "What did you chat about?"
Shangguan Yurou thought for a moment and said, "He told me his name was Nangong Ye, and then said he was the young master of the Nangong Family..."
"What?" Han Juyou abruptly interrupted Shangguan Yurou. "Did you say his name is Nangong Ye?"
