Chapter 16

1,207 words6 minutes read

Killer Croc looked at the golden-haired youth before him, his tusk-filled mouth splitting into a low chuckle.
"Young man."
"I don't know what's wrong with your head."
"But if you can say something like that, I suggest you go see a doctor at Arkham."
He raised his thick arms, pointing to the bloody corpses scattered around him that he had smashed.
"See? This is what happens when you mess with me."
Kakarot ignored his threat.
He merely looked up, his emerald eyes meeting the gaze of the behemoth.
"Waylon Jones."
He calmly uttered Killer Croc's real name.
"Born with a rare genetic condition, a form of atavistic intergenerational inheritance that made you look like a monster."
"You were exhibited as a monster in a circus since childhood, enduring endless humiliation."
"Finally, you killed your abusive boss, escaped to Gotham, took over the underworld, and became the king here."
With every word Kakarot spoke, the smile on Killer Croc's face stiffened a little more.
By the time Kakarot finished, his murky yellow beast-like eyes were filled with shock and wariness.
How did this kid know all this!
Kakarot didn't give him time to think and continued.
"I said this when I killed Joker."
"I will purge Gotham of all its tumors."
"Now, I am just fulfilling my promise."
Penguin, who had been observing from the shadows, trembled violently upon hearing the name "Joker."
That golden monster, who had vaporized Joker's head on live news in front of all of Gotham City!
It really was the youth standing before him!
"Hahaha..."
Penguin suddenly let out a sharp laugh. He walked out of the office, leaned on the railing, and looked down at Kakarot.
"Killed Joker, and now you think you're Gotham's savior?"
He said with extreme mockery.
"Little brat, I'm telling you, you're too naive!"
"Batman has been causing trouble in Gotham for so many years, has he eliminated us?"
"No!"
"So, why do you think you can do a better job than him?"
Just then.
Whoosh—!
A muffled engine roar came from outside the restaurant.
Immediately after, a black behemoth descended from the sky!
Boom!
The ground shook violently as the object landed heavily at the restaurant entrance, shattering the already broken floor tiles.
It was a humanoid armor standing over two meters tall.
Completely black, with rugged lines, exuding a violent aesthetic.
Its appearance resembled a predatory wolf poised to strike, with blade-like armor protrusions on its shoulders and knees, and a large red bat symbol on its chest that flickered faintly under the flashing police lights.
On the headpiece, two crimson optical lenses lit up, focusing on the scene.
Fenrir Armor, prototype model.
Batman's ultimate weapon, secretly developed to counter the potential loss of control among other Justice League members, made an early appearance for this boy.
Commissioner Gordon also emerged from behind the police car. He looked at the golden figure in the restaurant, then at the terrifying war machine beside him, and felt a headache coming on.
"Kakarot! Stop!"
Gordon shouted through the megaphone.
"This is Gotham! Everything must be done by the rules! You can't set up your own kangaroo court here!"
From within the Fenrir Armor, Batman's voice, further deepened and roughened by electronic processing, spoke.
"Your anger is turning you into the monster you hate."
"Turn back. It's not too late."
Kakarot didn't even turn his head.
"Do you think you can stop me?"
"Batman."
Kakarot's voice grew cold.
"I told you, you should just stick to your persona and not bother me."
"It seems I'll have to find a way to make you rest for a while."
Bruce inside the Fenrir Armor's pupils constricted.
But he didn't speak. Last time, he had explicitly revealed Kakarot's name; this time, he used his alias.
Kakarot, still without turning his head, held up a finger.
"One minute."
"In the next minute, I will kill Killer Croc and Penguin."
"Let's see if you can stop me."
The moment his words fell.
Kakarot's figure vanished.
"Roar!"
Killer Croc's vision blurred. A sense of mortal danger made his entire musculature tense!
Purely on instinct, he roared and swung his fist, as large as a washbasin!
The fist carried a fierce wind that tore through the air, capable of crushing a truck into a pancake!
But his fist was caught nonchalantly by a single hand.
Kakarot's figure reappeared.
He gripped Killer Croc's fist, which was thicker than his own thigh, with one hand, his expression utterly serene.
The next second.
He twisted his body, holding Killer Croc's arm.
CRUNCH!
A clean and decisive whip-kick landed squarely on Killer Croc's kidney.
"Aaaargh—!"
Killer Croc let out a howl of extreme agony. He felt as if his kidney had been struck by a red-hot hammer.
His massive body was sent flying uncontrollably.
CRASH!
He smashed through several gambling tables successively, finally slamming into a wall with immense force, causing spider-web-like cracks to appear on the solid load-bearing wall.
"You won't!"
The Fenrir Armor's engine roared!
Batman moved!
The heavy armor took a step, and the ground beneath it cracked!
He threw a punch, the momentum even more terrifying than Killer Croc's previous attack!
But what he hit was merely a slowly dissipating golden afterimage.
"Where is he?!"
Batman's crimson electronic eyes scanned the entire hall rapidly.
"Over... there!"
Commissioner Gordon pointed towards Penguin.
Along the corridor, Penguin, surrounded by seven or eight of his personal bodyguards, was attempting to sneak away through the restaurant's back door.
But a person appeared before him.
Kakarot's golden hair looked particularly dazzling under the corridor lights.
"Open fire! Shoot him dead! Shoot him dead!"
Penguin, terrified out of his wits, let out a pig-like shriek.
His bodyguards reacted swiftly, raising their weapons and unleashing a barrage of gunfire!
Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!
The dense bullets formed a wall of fire again, completely enveloping Kakarot.
However, all the bullets that struck Kakarot's body seemed to hit a steel plate.
Ding-ding-dang-dang!
Numerous deformed bullet heads fell to the ground.
Kakarot's expensive bespoke suit was riddled with holes, revealing his fair, tender skin underneath.
Kakarot's figure transformed into a golden lightning bolt in the narrow corridor.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A few muffled explosions.
The bodyguards' heads exploded like ripe watermelons.
Red and white splattered all over Penguin's body and face.
A strong, foul odor emanated from Penguin's fat crotch.
He had soiled himself in terror, his legs went weak, and he collapsed directly onto the ground.
"No—!"
The Fenrir Armor's thrusters were at maximum, and a scorching flame erupted from the jet nozzle on the armor's arm, attempting to stop Kakarot's next move.
But it was too late.
Whoosh—!
A golden beam, condensed to the extreme, flashed from Kakarot's palm.
The beam was silent but incredibly fast.
Pffft.
Penguin's head, smeared with blood and brains, was completely vaporized by the golden beam.
The beam continued, its momentum undiminished.
It directly met the charging Fenrir Armor.
BOOM—!!!
A deafening roar!
The Dark Knight of Gotham, along with his war machine, was forcefully propelled backward by the golden beam!
The black giant once again pierced the night sky.
It crashed heavily onto a police car outside the restaurant.
Reducing the poor police car to a pile of smoking, sparking scrap metal.
