Xu Shu always maintained the prudent habit of subconsciously locking his front door the moment he returned home. The reason for this was, naturally, the secret he could not reveal to others. He often needed to enter the Spirit Spring Space, and if the door were left unlocked, the village head of that realm might be exposed should someone suddenly barge in while he was unprepared—a risk he could under no circumstances accept.
And so, just as he had done many times before, Xu Shu returned home after a day of running errands and promptly locked the door behind him. He had just lifted his foot to head toward the kitchen to prepare his evening meal when the silence was shattered by a series of knocks: "Bang, bang, bang." The sound was coming directly from his front door.
Outside, Yi Zhonghai stood waiting, feeling quite displeased. According to the rules he had established for the courtyard, no one was permitted to lock their doors. While Yi Zhonghai was aware that Xu Shu locked his door—Mrs. Jia had mentioned it to him long ago—he had been so preoccupied with the affairs of the Jia Family that he had genuinely forgotten about it. Arriving at Xu Shu’s door, Yi Zhonghai had subconsciously reached out to push it open, only to find that it wouldn't budge. He realized the door was locked from the inside.
